Billy Ray Cyrus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Ray "Billy" Cyrus (born August 25, 1961)[1] is an American singer, songwriter and actor.[2][3][4]

Having released 12 studio albums and 44 singles since 1992, he is best known for his number one single "Achy Breaky Heart", which became the first single ever to achieve triple Platinum status in Australia. It was also the best-selling single in the same country in 1992[5][6] and was translated into more than 100 languages.[7] Thanks to the video of this hit, the line dance catapulted into the mainstream, becoming a worldwide craze.[8][9][10][11][12]

Cyrus, a multi-platinum selling recording artist, has scored a total of eight top-ten singles on the Billboard Country Songs chart. His most successful album to date is his debut Some Gave All, which has been certified 9× Multi-Platinum in the United States and is the longest time spent by a debut artist at number one on the Billboard 200 (17 consecutive weeks) and most consecutive chart-topping weeks in the SoundScan era.[13][14] It is the only album (from any genre) in the SoundScan era to log 17 consecutive weeks at number one and is also the top-ranking debut album by a male country artist. It ranked 43 weeks in the top 10, a total topped by only one country album in history, Ropin' the Wind by Garth Brooks.[15] Some Gave All was also the first debut album to enter at number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart.[16] The album has also sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling debut album of all time for a solo male artist. Some Gave All was also the best-selling album of 1992 in the US with 4,832,000 copies.[17][18] In his career, he has released 35 charted singles, of which 16 charted in the top 40.

From 2001 to 2004, Cyrus starred in the television show Doc. The show was about a country doctor who moved from Montana to New York City. From 2006 to 2011, he co-starred in the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana with his daughter Miley Cyrus.

I did not know he had more than one hit.

He infected the world with Miley for which he should spend a long time in jail.

No thank you, thanks to the pathetic and sadly immoral, secular Miley. She has no idea what a hornet’s nest she is entering and will regret the day she ever did.

Billy Ray Cyrus? Seriously?

How about a Mahler symphony instead?

I’ll be in Dallas Saturday for a Mozart piano concerto and a Shostacovich symphony.

Considering his daughter’s behavior, someone should perform a SVU investigation on this jerk.

When Mozart was my age, he’d been dead for 30 years.

“He infected the world with Miley for which he should spend a long time in jail.”
I have a friend in Nashville who has interviewed Billy and said he’s a great guy. But his business plan is “do whatever it takes to make big profits, and then retire to a nice life.” I wouldn’t be surprised to see Miley take the same course.

“Billy Ray Cyrus? Seriously?”

“How about a Mahler symphony instead?”

It was surprising when there was no interest shown for the Nitty Gritty Dirt band on Sunday night. The Stars and Stripes Forever 2 record album is really quite good.

I missed that one. As a banjo player I appreciate all that early folk/rock fusion. I recently buffed and polished up my old Pete Seeger Vega and I’ve been experimenting with a bluegrass/jazz/blues fusion. I don’t think it will be commercially viable, but it’s fun. Alternate tunings, dissonant chords, Earl Scruggs picking patterns. :-)

By the way, anyone reading this who wants to make it easier to browse for the music can do so using the Browse By Forum links on the right side of the Forum page, underneath Popular Keywords and above Breaking News (News/Activism). From there you locate General/Chat and look to the right, where you select Topics. That takes you to the lists, starting with the Gneral list at the top. You look down the General list to find and select Music/Entertainment. Selecting the link for music takes you to the Forum page and displays just those articles which included the post in the Music/Entertainment topic. That makes it much easier to find the postings for the music.

After listening to more than one minute of Billy Ray, or his evil spawn Smiley Virus, if you wish to scour your ears and brains of the fungal remains then I highly recommend:

Parquet Courts

Enjoy.
