OK, calm down, first off. The virus has been identified since the 1940s, and is known in Africa, where it originated and has also been found in Malaysia. It doesn’t have a major effects on the infected person and is basically just a mild cold. Some people don’t even know they’ve had it.

Any virus can cause deformities if contracted in the first three months of pregnancy. The microcephaly hysteria was based on one state in Brazil where there was a higher than average incidence of microcephaly. It is not an inevitable effect of this virus, but certainly viral exposure is related to birth defects.

The thing to do is not to eliminate the population, but eliminate the vector (the mosquito) and develop a vaccine.

TMI, but thanks just the same. I only wanted to know if I had to take extra measures to protect my dogs from mosquitos. The info in the blog pretty much answered any concerns I had. I figured others might have the same concerns, so I posted the link.
