The Scion FR-S is a nice looking car, just put a Celica or Supra nametag on it.

I forgot to mention also that the Flex has a design issue, where the plastic tray under the wiper area seems almost engineered to direct leaves and other debris down inside the front fenders, where it collects, holds moisture and promotes rot.

I’m 62. I bought a Scion xB, brand new in 2006. It is the best car I’ve ever owned. Others may have been better in one category or another, but it’s been the best overall. Still going strong at 180k.

And I have 85K on my 2.4 year old FRS. That car is a blast to drive every day on the twisties around here.

I think one of their problems is that too many old people saw the value of their cars for every day use. It screwed up their brand. I’m a musician. The box is the ultimate musician’s car.

Both of mine are sticks. Its part of the reason they are both so enjoyable.

Wonder if the deal with Subaru would allow the FR-S (sold as BRZ by Subaru) to be sold as a Toyota?

Scion is going away because it’s reason for being went away: Bring young buyers to Toyota. Toyota doesn’t need them to do that any more.

I have an xA, which I swear was designed and made for me.

That is exactly how I feel about my 2006 xB and my 2013 Fr-S, both purchased new. I’ll drive both into the ground.

It has been sold in Europe as a Toyota 86. The Scion FRS even has the 86 logo on the sides.

It will now become the 86 in the US.

Does anybody remember the 1978 AMC Pacer? That was an ugly car. We used to call it the “Spacer” because it was so ugly that people thought it came from outer space.

I’ve got a 2009 xB. It’s a dark purple, manual 5-speed, toaster-on-wheels with Gadsden and American flag stickers. On my frequent road trips to Virginia I tie an actual American flag to the rear wiper.

I love it. It’s so damned cute. And the clutch always jerks a little no matter what I do - I think it’s built in as part of the driving experience (no, seriously, been driving a stick for 35 years and never experienced this).

They’re not for everyone, but mine carts a ton of stuff at once. The interior is full square instead of pitched.

I bought mine on a trip to buy a Camry. I sat in the Camry and the xB was parked across from it. Love at first sight, I tell you. If I was a car I’d be an xB. I dream of getting it a custom paint job.

I bought a 2016 TC last november. I almost bought an FRS, but couldn’t reconsile not having a back seat. The TC reminds me a lot of my 2000 Celica which I drove for 200K. That was the best car I ever had, only had to put 1 set of brakes around 100K and a clutch at 180K. Sold it to my boss and his kid is still driving it. Wish I still had it.

You got it. I recall the ghetto, cartoonish advertising. What a joke.

“I had a Flex” ....

So glad you posted today! I love my xB but always wondered if a Flex wouldn’t be a better choice. Thank GOD the Scion has none of the Flex’s problems - what a friggin’ pain.

I will say I dodged a bullet and gained a Toaster.

Not a bad idea as Toyota seems to have forgotten how to build sports cars.

I remember that. As a kid I thought it was a rolling aquarium.

Young people don’t have jobs and a surprisingly large number don’t drive.

Thanks for the info on the Flex. I like a big car, but no one makes them any more (preferred type: Crown Vic, Caddi Fleetwood, mid-90s Buick Roadmaster Wagon or Sedan). I miss front bench seats.

Why I'm launching my Uber-killing "Drifter" app.

Just click Drifter, and a 19-year old Vietnamese-American kid, hopped up on energy drinks, will collect you at your door in a highly "tuned" Nissan 200SX, and in most cases, deliver you alive to your destination.
