Tech Help, Please?

Posted on 02/02/2016 5:28:31 PM PST by ccmovrwc

My elderly parents are having an issue with malware on the new (Windows 10) laptop they bought themselves for Christmas. Specifically, they have a "Debug browser spyware 895-system32.exe" window that pops us when they open a MS Edge browser. Screen cap can be seen here: http://i68.tinypic.com/2zjm2ox.jpg

Malwarebytes did not help. Any other suggestions?

For the record, yes, I am logged in, my beeber is stuned, and all my base are belongs to whomever. :)

I use enterprise McAfee and it doesn’t do very well.

Plain old Windows Defender has caught more pests.

Avast is OK and Vipre probably still is.

If your parents are like my retired parents, there is little of importance on the computer, especially since the thing is only 1 month old.

Nuke it - reformat the disk and reinstall the OS

First, remove the cover of your computer. Make sure you have no static charges on you. Just unscrew everything and open it up.

Next, get some lighter fluid and soak the insides of the computer.

Finally, grab a lighter and set it on fire.

This should kill any and all germs/viruses your computer has.

If you have Chrome, download Malware Bytes. Run computer in safe mode. Run malware bytes. Should clean it.

Type “privacy” in the search bar and turn it all off.

Install firefox with AdBlock and uninstall McAfee. Just say no to every prompt after that.

Thanks to all.

I have heard of PhotoBucket.

According to Google, “tinypic.com” is actually owned by PhotoBucket.

Did safe mode with malwarebytes work?

I’m still working on it, actually. I had to Google how to freaking start the thing in Safe Mode. Grrrr on Windows 10!

Windows 10 makes it pretty easy to perform a system restore. I would do that over trying to remove it at this point.

I looked up your error and found this..
https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-debug-malware-error-895-system-32-exe-failure-popup/

been reading up on this, basically that message about contacting someone for help is just a way for them to get money. Most likely some kind of adware was installed on the computer(Like downloading a free PDF program or something like that) and this thing latched on it. What I recommend is going into safe mode and doing a thorough virus scan like spybot search and destroy that should remove it

My new computer came with McAfee LiveSafe. So far it seems excellent and really watches over things.

Tempting, but probably not the solution Mom and Pop were looking for!

Even McAfee doesn’t use McAfee.

That is an excellent point. I think I’ll set up a new everyday user account for them before I return their laptop.

Thanks.
