A prank call to the Morro Bay Burger King late Saturday night about a fake gas leak led to major damage for the business, according to a news release from the Morro Bay Police Department.

Employees of the Burger King on 781 Quintana Road received a call from someone who indicated that they were a representative from the fire department advising of an emergency, according to reports. The caller said that the business’ windows needed to be broken for ventilation, and the store’s employees allegedly complied. The Morro Bay public safety team, including both the police and fire departments, responded to the possible gas leak. Officials found extensive damage to the windows, but no gas leak, according to the news release.

This has happened several times over the past year. You’d think that these fast food restaurants would be wise to it now and give the store managers some training.

One of these days somebody will really go chasing after their refrigerator because they got a call from somebody who asked if it was running.

Uh-oh.

The caller, investigators reported, came up with "some elaborate story" about a midget being barricaded in an adjoining room, and that "he needed to help police get to him." Jones used his wrench to "break away sheet rock behind the room door," nearly punching through to the room next door.

Well...I guess that explains why I didn't find a midget in there. Who knew?
