Pilot Program Launches to Fight Homelessness Among LGBTQ Youth (MN)

There's a new push to combat youth homelessness in the Twin Cities.

It's specifically targeting youth who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

A report published in May by the Wilder Foundation says at least 2,200 youth are homeless any given night in Minnesota. One in six are LGBTQ.

That's just a fraction of the young people all across the country looking for answers. Approximately 1.7 million young people across the country are homeless every year. The reasons vary, but there's one group who has an additional obstacle.

"With LGBT youth in particular there's the added component of family rejection," said Ryan Berg, director of the Minneapolis & Suburban Host Home Program.

According to the Williams Institute, 40 percent of all homeless youth in America identify as LGBTQ.

On Saturday, dozens in Minnesota learned about a pilot program dedicated to providing a home in the Twin Cities accepting of the LGBTQ population.

"There are things we can do to help young people," said Scott Dibble, a Minnesota State Senator.

The program is called ConneQT. Berg is the program manager and says there are three components within the program. It starts with family strengthening and also offers short term housing anywhere from one week to three months.

"Volunteers within the community will open up their homes to the community and provide shelter and food," Berg said.

The third component is rapid re-housing a more long-term solution.

"Which means apartments for youth scattered throughout the community and they'll have intensive case management and wrap around services for the young people," Berg said.

"It's not just beds and structures but it's also the services they need," Dibble said.

Dibble said he has tackled this issue for years.

"It's pretty shocking that I, as a legislator, have had to fight so hard for so long just to recognize this as an actual problem," Dibble said.

Finding a connection and finding a strong community is what many who identify as LGBTQ want. While it's an unsolved issue nationally, organizers here say Minnesota can lead the way.

"It serves none of us when young people don't succeed," Dibble said.

Organizers say the program will launch in March.

Wanna bet that this turns into government sponsored gay child prostitution?

“A report published in May by the Wilder Foundation says at least 2,200 youth are homeless any given night in Minnesota. One in six are LGBTQ. “

One in six are LGBTQ and they are getting special attention.

Why?

Are the other 5 kids not worth it.

“One in six are LGBTQ.”

“So, we’re gonna help them because they’re more politically correct than the vast majority. To the other five? Too bad, chumps. “

All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

"Homeless because their parents kicked them out, I suppose?"

More likely because the parents have rules, and the defiant spawn have been carefully advised of their "rights" and refuse to live by the parents rules. They choose to move out and live elsewhere and thus they are homeless by choice.

Nah.

That would make too much sense. They need to be bailed out and supported by the leftist government in Minnesota, at the expense of taxpayers who actually have jobs and work hard for their money.

Homosexual democrats care more about homosexual homeless kids than all homeless kids. Will he be giving them a home in his home if they are males?

This is easy. Take the obamacare approach and force them to buy a house.

Just keep adding things and soon everyone will be in the ‘gay’ community, except WHITE CHRISTIANS, they need someone to blame for the miserable life choices they have made.

I’ve seen Q explained as either ‘queer’ and ‘questioning.’ Don’t ask me, I don’t get it either. That was the explanation given.

It needs to be understood that almost none of these youths are homeless because they’ve been kicked out of their parents’ homes. Most of them have been radicalized by sodomite groups through their schools and cultural message disseminators to believe that their parents are ogres for not embracing homosexuality, and that they MUST leave home if their lives are to have any meaning.
