What is an unfair question? (Vanity)
Little House on Unaka | 1/27/16 | don-o

Hannity just got on my last nerve (again). He's talking to a Trump son about "unfair questions". Hannity says he hears unfair questions from the media. He says he never asks unfair questions.

But, I never hear, "What exactly is an unfair question"?

What makes a question unfair?

Not a big fan of vanities. But most of the threads are going around in the same circles.

Let's get some discussion on the current buzz word.

Yes, that’s intended as an example of an unfair question.

Have to agree that loaded questions are, if not “unfair” (versus “foul”?), then unethical.

Irrelevant and unfair are in this case about the same:

"What's your opinion on the theory of evolution?"

One is "How often do you beat your wife"?

And "Why are you so Unlikeable?"

These Gotcha questions permeate the news now. So much so that they are mostly Unwatchable. I watch BBC news and Canadain news about the US. It is much more objective and informative.

Trap questions, gotchas, and misquotes. Or really, the way modern media works, pretty much any question that isn’t a fawning softball. They really don’t do useful questions anymore, they’re either trying to score points for themselves, or trying to help out the person they’re supposedly grilling.

Life isn’t fair. Fairness is an abstract invention of the human mind. It only applies to games invented by people. For real life it’s necessary to grow up.

If your example were asked of a candidate for school board, would it be fair and relevant?

When it’s an intentional rude slap down that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

What has that question got to do with becoming a president?

Are you old enough to remember the "debate" between JFK and Nixon?

If not...let me enlighten you...it was ONLY policy stuff; NO personal questions at all and NO "gotchas".

unfair is something that is against the rules. It is often used by people that are unhappy but have no legitimate recourse.

In a debate, any question that is an “interview” question is unfair.

The whole purpose of a DEBATE is to ask a question relevant to the topic and have the DEBATERS state their opinions or stance on the issue...

The object of a debate is to discern differences of opinion between the debaters, not point at individuals...

Many of Megyn Kelley’s questions are not questions at all, they’re statements.

Any statement is an unfair question.

That was unfair of you to ask that question!

To an extent, they are. I listen via satellite. Sadly, even there I hear the execrable habit of beginning answers with "So...."

Grrrr
