Vanity: What's the best mattress?
1/22/16 | me

Need expert freeper help: just bought the casper mattress and even though their customer service is exemplary, the mattress is entirely too hard for me. I've slept on it for 5 nights so far and I have tossed and turned every night, all night, trying to find a comfortable position.

If money is no object, what's the best mattress out there?

Exactly
Used to wonder why I slept so great the Marriott properties and it turns out it was the mattresses

Bought the same model for my house 10 years ago and wake up feeling like a million bucks

I’ll check the brand when I get home, not sure if it’s sealy or serta

I bought a similar mattress a couple years back..just a bit too firm. BUT we bought a 4 inch memory foam topper and it’s fantastic now. You might try the same thing.

We like dense foam. I got one at Territory (something) catalog. It is wonderful and lots cheaper than the department store ones.

No, the Casper is much softer than my Sleep Number setting. At first I thought it was too soft, but I went to sleep the first night with a backache and woke up the next morning without one. You really do need a better alarm clock.

One thing that makes it hard to compare is the major manufacturers give the same mattress different names for different retailers. That allows retailers to advertise they will match the price elsewhere, because they aren’t the “same model” as the other store has.

Add me to the chorus praising the Sleep Number bed.

We went with the split king adjustable, which means king-size dimensions when linked together, but each side is adjustable to different firmness AND each can raise and lower the head and the foot.

We avoided the expensive "side rails" as these made under-the-bed storage impossible. The bed coverings avoid things like skirts in favor of bed coverings that drape to the floor.

If you're not in a hurry, and you watch the commercials on TV or monitor the offerings on the internet, they go "on sale" from time to time. We got 48 month no interest payments and went with that. I'd just jettisoned a couple of subscription services (TV, internet) and had that much new wiggle room in the budget. For no change in our monthly cash flow, we had a new Sleep-number bed.

I also concur heartily with the enjoyment of being able to adjust the softness/hardness of the matress at will. It's true - changing health conditions, moods, seasons, all that can make a change in the bed something welcome and enjoyable.

I also have GERD. I was taking medication for it. I stopped that medication on a dime when I began adjusting the head of my matress to a slight incline. GERD is gone!

I know you’re looking for a standard mattress; but I must say, some of the inflatable mattresses I’ve slept on were surprisingly comfortable. Well, the ones that didn’t leak.

Some say Blond, others Brunette, still others say Redhead, I think you will have to make up your own mind.

Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing........

I just bought two from Sams Club, they are the Sharper Image 12” Gel Memory. The reviews were all extremely high, the price, very reasonable. Unpacked them, let them sit for 48 hours. Slept on mine last night, it was one of the best night sleeps ever. I never leave reviews on stuff but this mattress is really good.

Been sleeping on a heated water bed for 30+ years. Can’t beat it.
