“He just let Cruz speak for himself.”

It makes it hard for Cruz to say Trump lied, doesn’t it?

;)

You’re right—Cruz was wrong and until the last month or so he was slippery about still being wrong.

Trump raised the issue in the campaign, but he’s for a touchback amnesty right now, and Cruz has of late come out against any amnesty.

This ad IMO is slippery too, because it compares Cruz’s past on amnesty with Trump’s present on border security. Trump can’t compare their current respective positions on amnesty, because Trump would lose.

I can tell you Free Republic is not going to be a very happy place to land in two years, if Trump becomes President.

There are going to be a WHOLE LOT of people who were dupped into voting for someone they thought would change everything.. only to realize they voted probably for the worst President in the history of the nation. Yes, it can get worse than Obama!!!

Cruz was not wrong at all.

Trump is a shrewd operator and is taking this completely out of context.

The amendment to the Bill mentioned was a poison pill Cruz was trying to insert into the gang of 8 legislation (which Rubio helped author) to expose that the Dems were not interested in anything but getting votes from illegals. He knew it would fail, but wanted to punctuate what the Dems were doing at the time.

It simply stated, okay, if you do this you have to put in the bill that they cannot vote. The Dems voted it down thus exposing their true agenda.

Cruz was smart...now that is being used against him in spot ads that take advantage of the squeeze play he was putting on the democrats.

In the end, either Trump or Cruz will be immeasurably better than Hillary or sanders.

But, as I say, Trump is playing a deft political game here, and sadly, because of that Cruz had to say at the time to try and expose the democrats, he is able to use that against him in the primaries.

Here's what Trump has really said about amnesty. He's for it.

You have to look back at what was happening at the time. It only appears confusing now...but then it was not.

Rubio and the Gang of 8 were trying to pass clear amnesty legislation and the Dems were doing it to get the vote of the new citizens. Cruz was exposing that.

So he proposed an amendment that said in essence, “okay, if you do this, you simply have to put in the bill that these new citizens cannot vote.”

He knew they would vote it down and thus expose their true agenda.

And they voted it down and Cruz was able to use that to help defeat the overall bill.

Now, that action and what he said to try and get the amendment passed is being used against him. And the people using it know this full well...but hey, its politics.

In the end either Cruz or Trump would be very good for the country. Cruz knows what Trump is doing and he knows why.

I believe any rancor is feigned...Cruz was smart back then and played the game wisely to defeat a bad bill. Trump is wise now and playing the same game.

Hmm...in the Trump-Cruz cage match, Trump is the first to go up with a negative TV attack ad! If the Donald is such a strong leader and winner, then why is putting out a highly edited attack ad 10 days out from the Hawkeye Cauci?

In a word, DESPERATION! Bonus word, INSECURE!

There’s the problem: the average American doesn’t see it that way.

No one has done more flip flpping than TRUMP.. he has even changed parties over and over....whose to say that when elected, after “ THE DEAL” is clinched, he will flip back to the other side.
He’s a con artist. Much like my former son-in-law who spoke out of one side of his mouth and delivered the opposite.

BEWARE!!!

This is always a problem for Senators...they have to take votes! Cruz was trying to sell his poison pill amendment and appeared to be supporting amnesty at that moment in time...however, the amendment was responsible for flushing out the real intent of the Gang of 8 and led to the demise of the comprehensive package!

I have to admit that it was confusing and opened Cruz up to this kind of attack by Rubio, now Trump.

In know...and Trump is taking advantage of that. It is how politics works.

Cruz was right in what he did back then and he had to play the game to make it stick and defeat the Gang of Eight’s bill.

Now that is being used against him by Trump in the same way he operated against Rubio and the gang of eight.

Most people are not aware of what he had to do to defeat the legislation back then.

I believe Cruz and Trump both know exactly what is happening.

As I say, either Trump or Cruz or going to be immeasurably better for the nation that Hillary or sanders. In the end...that is what is going to matter. Both men are playing the political game as they have to get into a positin to do that. I do not hold it against ether of them

Trumps deportation plan allows all the “good ones” to come right back in. Who are the “good ones” and who gets to decide?

If the only reason you are for Trump is because he is promising to build a big beautiful wall, then what good is the wall when you allow 90% of the people you deport to come back on an expedited basis and become legal?

Yes. Read my post number 34.

It’s the way it works. Both men know it and both men play it well to get good done. In the primaries...they have to play against one another.

No need for rancor or anger, and I dot believe for a moment that either of them are really angry or mad about this...it is just the way it is.

Ted did not handle this interview right but I believe that given time instead of micro-seconds he would have. And, I believe Ted would be better over-all on immigration.

That said, I think too that whether or not the “natural born citizen” issue effects Ted long term that he has lost a few points in Iowa because of Trump harping on it.

Finally, I think Ted is going to lose in Iowa AND New Hampshire so the NBC issue and all else will be MOOT.

Barring something major, Trump will be walking in to the Oval Office 363 days from today and Hillary will be out on a PR Bond.

Cruz just seriously misrepresented Trump’s stance on the amnesty bill from 2013. He chose one Tweet where Trump said securing the border should be done before amnesty. Amnesty at the time looked as if it were going to pass. That is what Trump was referencing. He was not saying he was supporting amnesty.

As Ann Coulter proved on her Twitter stream on Jan. 18, Trump had more than a dozen tweets attacking the amnesty bill (and I’ve checked and she’s even missed some of his best anti-amnesty bill tweets). Any precursory look at his total Twitter feed from that time makes it clear that Trump thought the bill was in his words a “monstrosity.” So, Cruz and not Trump started on this selectively using his opponent’s words against him strategy in regard to illegal immigration. Trump is hitting back, as he always does when unfairly attacked.

Trump and Cruz are our two best choices—by far. Neither IMO is perfect. Cruz has now leapfrogged Trump on immigration, which makes him my number one choice; but Trump has a better economic/tax plan. Trump is also good on trade, whereas Cruz has been very slippery on that as well.

I don't think anyone much is being "dupped" into voting for Trump. We know the downside. All the Cruzers tell remind us of them. What they don't tell us is the upside for voting for Cruz. "Social conservative values" - well he is not going anywhere with that. Nowhere at all.
