Is it parallel, Ethernet or USB?

Try subscribing to one of several reputable “PC maintenance” applications. I know the subscription version of Malwarebytes has multiple tools to uninstall, diagnose, or fix software. I also subscribe to AVG for virus protection, and it has multiple fix-it tools as well.

Even if you got Win 7, do not count on HP bothering to have drivers for it.

They did not for my perfectly good Photosmart printer. Have to keep an old XP machine around to print photos. No more HP for me ever again. They seem to want to force you into a new printer every time MS comes out with a new OS by refusing to support older printers with updated drivers.

Are you using the Windows uninstaller? If that doesn’t work, try Revo Uninstaller.

Call Carly. She can fix anything HP related.

Seriously, it sounds like your hardware is hosed. Time to go printer shopping.

You will need to find the drivers for that specific printer and download them and try to reinstall. If you have a system backup you can try that.

You can reload XP, which may take like a day or so and is fraught with issues getting 2nd edition update to load, assuming it’s still out there, or you can buy a new printer..

I have to go to a meeting. But my guess is the printer USB port is set to the wrong speed level. Somewhere in the menu structure is a setting.

Have you tried a known good printer cable?

Intermittent problems can often be traced to cable fault. Running a rolling chair over it repeatedly can cause a break in one or more of the smaller wires in the cable. Pinching in an access door or drawer can also damage cable.

Are the cable connections snugly fitted?

An intermittent connection would explain the “cannot uninstall” msg. no dsta exchange.

Same with power cable.

All right. Stop booing. I was only trying to help ease the tension.

My last HP printer was smashed to pieces onto my driveway. It felt good.

I generally find when this happens it is my wireless router.
I reboot it and its fine. I keep getting printer offline.

Wireless printer?

If it is, I have run into that problem with other models.

I have WiFi repeaters around my house. Had to unplug all of them, shut off the computer WiFi and restart the printer. After restarting the printer a new local network IP address is set.

I then plug the repeaters back in and turn computer Wifi back on.

If there is a power glitch with the printer it tends to reset to the one of the repeaters and is not recognized by the computer.

Doesn't hurt to restarter the router also. Do that first before turning the printer back on.

Try to boot in ‘Safe mode’ - the procedure depends upon what version of windows you have.

I have TOTALLY given up on HP printers - they are a menace!

We have three Brothers and one Canon in this house (I print 30,000 copies on my one Brother a year).

The one HP I do have is an old portable which is worthless and is used only a spacer under a cooler when we put a cooler in a particular car for a road trip - it prevents the cooler from rubbing on the door :-)

I have two phantom HP printers that reinstall themselves on my Mac and Windows devices.

It’s an HP thing...

Small wonder the last three printers I have advised my clients to purchase were Brother...

Good luck!

1.Turn off printer and unplug from PC

2. Restart in safe mode, press F8 key immediately when it restarts and keep pressing until splash screen. Select safe mode

3. Go to control panel and uninstall printer and all drivers

4. Restart PC in normal mode. Go to HP site and download latest drivers and software package for printer

5. Start install, plug in and power on printer when prompted.

Unless you’ve got windows-specific software that you can’t do without, you should install Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop and never look back. Otherwise, install Win 10.
