The price of gas hit a stunning low -- just 47 cents per gallon -- in Michigan on Sunday.

Michigan was the first state to have gas under $1 in likely over a decade, Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, told ABC News today.

A gas station in Houghton Lake, Michigan, hit the 47 cents mark after a price war between three stations in the town, DeHaan said.

Gasoline Taxes in Michigan are higher than the price they are selling.

If I had a reason to drive to Mackinaw City, then it would be incredible news.

I hope it spreads to the rest of the state.

Amazing how supply can affect prices.

Just imagine how great it would be if we could have government Gas insurance policies.

In the summer of 1971 I paid 17 cents a gallon for gas in the middle of the night on a road trip through Missouri. I don’t even remember the town, just the 17 cents. At the time gas was always 32.9, except once in a while it would drop to 28.9. This when I was making a $1.25 an hour at Mickey D’s.

Adjusted for inflation, this is 21 cents per gallon in the year I started driving, 1982.

Gas is cheaper than in any time I've been driving.

Don't forget, "We can't just drill our way to lower gas prices."

Obamao himself taught us this and he's never wrong.

When I was a kid, late 1930’s, gas was on occasion $.010 or 10/$1.00 during price wars. Considering the value of a dollar today these Michigan prices are lower than that, way lower. Of course, no Green Stamps or juice glasses.

Low-price supply driven by technology improvements and advances. Liberals never factor those things in.

Stations rarely make any money of significance on gas... most of its made in the convenience store. Maybe a few pennies a gallon if that generally speaking.

Its no coincidence that over the years the STORE part of a gas station has gotten bigger and bigger.

If prices are rising, stations are lucky if the money they got out of their last tank full will even cover the cost of the next tank of gas.. Which they have to pay for fully on delivery usually.

In PA thanks to the Republican Legislature and Governor, raw oil prices could hit zero and I doubt you’d see sub $1.50 a gallon.

Meanwhile my kid still doesn’t have her school books thanks to the new Democrat the teachers union helped put into power “for the children”.

What a difference four years make:

February 12, 2012: Obama also predicted that Republicans would soon unveil a "three-point plan for $2 gas," and "I'll save you the suspense: Step One is to drill and Step Two is to drill. And then Step Three is to keep drilling." Obama called it "a bumper sticker," and "not a strategy to solve our energy challenge."

The only real solution to bring prices down, Obama said, is a comprehensive strategy that includes conservation, fuel efficiency standards, and new sources of energy as well as increased oil and gas production.

"Anybody who tells you we can drill our way out of this problem doesn't know what they're talking about, or just isn't telling you the truth," Obama said.

Obama the Energy Expert thus spake. All bow down to his energy wisdom!

Don’t make too big a deal about this. Our wimp governor will take it as a sign to raise fuel taxes again. He’s never seen a tax that he didn’t like or that he couldn’t justify.

Our gas taxes are set to go up again in 2017. The Republicans just couldn’t resist more spending by way of taxation.
