His strengths include intelligence, articulateness, and, usually, cheerfulness. His misjudgments involve, in ascending order of importance, the Senate immigration bill of 2013, sugar, Libya, and S-590.

Never give more knives to backstabbers
Pandering to an open racial supremacist organization like La Raza showed extremely poor judgment. There was an inherent lack of character in going that route.
There was also an inherent incapacity to understand the political climate of the times in not realizing that going to those rallies was something that will come back to frame who he really is for the foreseeable future.
