United Nations (United States) (AFP) - A UN study of new sources of financing for its multi-billion-dollar aid operations is recommending a voluntary tax on football matches or concerts as one option to raise funds.
The report released Sunday in Dubai also recommended tapping into Islamic social finance and mandatory alms-giving (zakat) as well as improving the transparency of relief operations to cut costs.
More wars and natural disasters over the past decade have sent the price tag for global UN aid efforts skyrocketing, from $2 billion in 2000 to $ 24.5 billion in 2015, according to the nine experts who drafted the report.

The U.N. is just another criminal enterprise.
It’s not like the UN is infamous for its graft.
Just what is a ‘voluntary tax’ ?
Is that like buying a lottery ticket ?
They got the idea from Ralph Nader’s PIRG fleecing of college students.
Shut this criminal empire down, voluntary tax ??? Are you kidding me? The UN can eye all it wants if the NFL and others climb on board with this idiocy they will suffer
They just add it to your bill, and if you don't object, it's "voluntary".
AKA "Negative Checkoff".
Empty UN HQ of all the Deadbeats will save the UN 99% of it’s budget
Turn UN HQ into “Trump Tower - East River”
The way Seattle is playing right now, I doubt they collect much.
I’ve helped my financial situation by cutting back on a lot of discretionary spending (and scrutinizing necessary purchases); I’ve found stories like this to be very motivational. For example, for years I resisted online bill payments, but when Obama won the 2008 election I immediately set it up and never looked back (I don’t even know what a stamp costs now).
I can’t “go Galt”, but we can all do our bit.
It’s voluntary as in you make the choice to buy a ticket to a venue, nobody forces you to buy a ticket and pay their little tax.
In that case - Go for it!
Oh I'm sure Obama would just love to have the NFL help the children.
Definitely soccer. Not the NFL. Sure, the rowdies at English soccer stadiums will ‘voluntarily’ contribute
The money from ticket purchases IS humanitarian aid. Look
how many poor, hungry, uneducated, inter-city kids are
turned into wealthy uneducated adult thugs with those funds.
Communism is the UN goal.
Nobody forces me to buy groceries, or gasoline for my car, but I pay tax on it.
This is “for the children”? So the UN workers can then keep sexually assaulting children in Africa and elsewhere. Idiots. Criminals.
No. No special taxes to pay for special programs. If someone wants to donate to a humanitarian charity, that is good, and it is their choice. There should be no government role in charity.
There is no virtue in involuntary support for charity, and there is no humility in accepting charity that is given out by government as if it were a right.
