Tribe thought he was training Cruz to be a Sith — and is dismayed that Cruz turned out to be a Jedi.

I thought it was Alan Dershowitz, not Tribe, who said Cruz was his brightest student?

Then plenty of CAIR leaders or refugees could also gain the US presidency.

FWIW, I believe Natural Born Citizen should be defined as: Born to parents, both of whom are US Citizens for more than 20 years. If the child is born while the parents are out of the country, documentation should be provided that the parents had reason to be out of the country and intending to return.

However, what I want or believe is not the actual governing law. The only court decisions defining “Natural Born Citizen” right now have Ted Cruz as a natural born citizen.

Sorry Lawrence, and all of the Trump-ettes who are using this to try and take down Cruz.

Although no case law supports this, logic and history do.

To be president of the United States, one must be so both by being born here AND by virtue of parental status as citizen(s), either born hete or naturalized. In other words of the blood AND of the soil.

Such requirements make it more difficult for a person to be an America hater or to be ignorant of the spirit of the Constitution. Will await objections.

“But Ted Cruz can’t be president because he was born in Canada to an American citizen mother and spent nearly his entire life in the United States. “

The fact of the Ineligibility of Ted Cruz is based upon the law and not upon who takes official notice of that law. The ineligibility for official public office is a legal tradition practiced for many centuries to safeguard the security of governments. Britain denied denizens and others with foreign born parents the right to serve in the Privy council and other government offices. The authors of the Constitution considered similar protections for Senators, Congressmen, and Justices, but finally decided to apply that protection only to the Office of the President and the Office of the Vice President. Now we have Liberals and so-called conservatives alike attempting to deny and abrogate the law and its protections at will.

Everyone has boundaries around their bodies, so how about during childbirth the area around the mother’s body should be declared a temporary territory of her citizenship land so that she can naturally pass her citizenship on to her child no matter where she chooses to give birth. This would give every child born the current citizenship of their mother, therefore ending anchoring the child’s citizenship to a country which the mother is not a citizen, unless the father is a citizen of a different country then the mother, then the child has dual citizenship and when the child is of age 18 or 21, the child must declare one citizenship over another just like naturalized citizens do, they give up one citizenship for another. It seems very unnatural for a child not to be a citizen of his or her parents’ homeland(s). It doesn’t seem right that a nation could take away a child’s citizenship because the child was born there to parent(s) who are not citizens. Somewhere I read an old time statement that “A kitten born in the warming pan is not a biscuit, it’s a cat like its mother and its father.”

The statue from 1790 is pretty clear. You do not have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to understand it. Both parents have to be citizens when running for President or the VP slot. Trump is correct in that Cruz needs to get this settled.

The “natural born” concept needs a little refinement due to changing technology. A child having the misfortune to be born on the International Space Station is a natural born citizen of nowhere.
