I don’t play the lottery, but if I did, I would want to know where my wager went to.

Why? State lotteries are more honest than Indian casinos. Only the age, gender, and county of the winner should be released.

“I don’t play the lottery, but if I did, I would want to know where my wager went to.”

Hey - I wonder if this guy will reimburse me for say half of my wager? “So you see - I invested in your winnings allowing you to get all that money. How about you just send me half of my investment back?”

That $10 would come in handy!

Reasonable people who had the time to think it through would realize they have ways around collecting the money in person and having their name published, regardless of the laws of their state. If they didn't flaunt their wealth no one would ever know. Regardless, do you think if the government was corrupt enough to rig the lottery, they wouldn't be corrupt enough to just choose a good "winner" or for that matter just create a winner?

People's desire to "know where your wager went to" simply doesn't make any sense, and as such is far less important than the safety and security of another person.

Would you want to get a call that your granddaughter was kidnapped for ransom because you won the lottery? How about one of your children? Your spouse? Do you think people should have to surround themselves and everyone they hold dear with armed security simply because they have won the lottery? All for some misguided notion that if we see some people on the TV that are "winners" we know the lottery isn't crooked? Sorry it just doesn't add up.

And if you happen to be the winner, you might as well open a non-restricted Facebook page, put neon signs up around your property and invite all the scam artists around to dinner...

I can't see a legal way to keep it private but publishing the info seems to be similar to those who want to publish names/addresses/phone numbers of gun owners, etc.

I would want it private for as long as possible to set up a means of defense against the leeches and other scam artists.
