Luckily for us, we were relative newcomers to CA and had bought earthquake insurance. We only replaced what we truly lost. Then earthquake insurance went up from $395/year to $1,300/year. There WAS a crack in our foundation, but it was shallow/cosmetic. My son’s teacher lost her house......cracked right up the middle.......it was on a cut and fill lot. Forever after, until we left California, when we would get a temblor in the night, my heart would race. Haven’t felt one since we moved a bit east.
We eventually moved a LOT East. Bryan got a job in Virginia, but the
owner of the plant turned out to be a crook, so Bryan got a job in Ohio.
I was still in California, packing and cleaning up the house for when I
painted the entire inside and got all our stuff to Bryan’s rental in Ohio
on 27 acres with a lake, forest, and a stream.
Bryan proceeded to climb the corporate ladder at his new job, and we just
took it from there. I had shipped our cats to him at the rental, and two
of our cars to a pick-up point in West Virginia. I also shipped our three
motorcycles. It took us a while to get both of the cars to the pole barn
at the rental, and we rented a trailer for the bikes.
We didn’t live at the rental for long. Bryan found a house for sale (this
one), and we’ve been very happy here ever since. Only six acres, but that
is good enough for us.
