Yep. He sat as a senator, holding dual citizenship. Michelle Bachmann had a similar issue, either asking for or getting and renouncing Swiss citizenship.
-- I'm not sure what to make of that, legally or otherwise. --
Legally it's a non-issue. Nothing precludes dual citizens from being in Congress, and I'll bet there are a dozen or more dual citizens in Congress right now. Politically is is troublesome.
-- To put this as politely as possible, when I don't know what to make of someone, I am not in a place of trust for that person. --
That's an appropriate reaction.
‘And with that comment’
It was a question, not a comment. And you didn’t answer it.
So allow me.
If every conservative in the country agreed today that Cruz is a NBC, the promised Dem lawsuits would still roll out, should he become the nominee.
If every conservative in the country agreed Cruz was NOT a NBC, the barrage of Dem lawsuits (should Cruz be the nominee) would be unaffected.
It is not about conservative opinion. It is about the way Dems fight, and the tactics they use to win.
Again we agree 100% on the law. My remark about a court not making a finding reflects my belief that courts stay out of political issues, whether they should or shouldn’t in presidential cases being a separate inquiry, they just flat out don’t want to be responsible for affecting the way a political process plays. Better to leave it to the candidates to “do the right thing.”
Ted is more like obumma every day.
Yeah right! That’s why Trump spent 1/2 hour on it Sat night in Clear Lake. The Donald is just trying to help out.......
He knows this is going nowhere, but its all he can come up with to try to discourage a Cruz vote or two.
If Trump does not finish in # 1 spot or really really close in Iowa, watch him begin to do a Gentle Ben disappearing act. All he’s got is talk.
My point is they already have determined that he is a naturalized citizen.
Cruz birthers will carry the day when Originalists carry the day on the Interstate Commerce and General Welfare clauses.
STANDING standing Standing...... the plantiff has to have standing.
I hadn't known that about her possibly having dual citizenship and wonder about the legalities involved in her case, just as I now wonder about the legalities involved in Senator Ted Cruz's case.
None the less, to me, the issue of her possibly gaining dual citizenship through marriage to her husband is still quite a bit different than that of Ted Cruz.
You know what a naturalized citizen is?
Citizenship by statute is naturalization.
“A person born out of the jurisdiction of the United States can only become a citizen by being naturalized, either by treaty, as in the case of the annexation of foreign territory, or by authority of congress, exercised either by declaring certain classes of persons to be citizens, as in the enactments conferring citizenship upon foreign-born children of citizens, or by enabling foreigners individually to become citizens by proceedings in the judicial tribunals, as in the ordinary provisions of the naturalization acts.” U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U.S. 649, 702-703
According to this:
http://money.cnn.com/2015/09/03/news/economy/donald-trump-jobs-created/
At least 34,000 jobs are attributable to Trump and his organization has 22,450 employees with over $9.5 billion in revenue last year.
That's certainly considered a 'win' considering the garbage administration and garbage economy we've had the last several years.
This guy is no different than the Clintons, whatever lie it takes. All the while, hoping your followers are to stupid to catch on.
I take it you hope Cruz will be forced out of the race because of this issue.
The fact that the Great Pretender in the Oval Office was given a pass by largely liberal judges does not create a binding precedent. The issue remains unresolved and it is not clear that Senator Cruz would get the same pass.
Trump was my second choice, but I donât think that I can do this. Trump has exposed himself as just another politician who will say or do anything to get elected. We have had enough poll-driven politicians with no core principles in elected office.
It occurs to me that Donald Trump would have standing.
I'd rephrase that a little. They've alredy decided that if they hear his case, they will determine that he is a naturlized citizen. Just that the decision, attached to Cruz's name, is prosective, and hasn't been made yet.
I can't see a federal court deciding an NBC eligibility case on the merits. I think they should, but think they won't.
I agree with that, but with the caveat that the result will occur without a court decision on the merits.
