Charles Butt, the Texas billionaire magnate behind the H-E-B supermarket chain which forbid the open carry of firearms law that went into effect January 1, 2016, opposes school choice, funds anti-school choice lobbyists, and is even credited for his role in killing a 2011 state bill banning âsanctuary cities.â
Butt is the 2015 fourth richest Texan and Forbesâ 44th wealthiest person in America with a net worth of $10.7 billion known for funneling hard earned assets into educational lobby groups that fight school choice, although the 77-year-old grocer received a private Ivy League college education that included an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvaniaâs prestigious Wharton School and a masterâs in business administration from Harvard. Texas Watchdog stated Butt believes that private competition âundermines government schools.â

Donates to either party. But they always want something in return. There are plenty of wealthy business people that do this. I heard that someplace recently... ;~)

Good choice. The liberals here were protesting open carry in a Kroger store and as I recall, Kroger kicked them off the property...

Have been told that 1/2 of their operation is in MX and 1/2 in TX. Part of their business model.
I was in the Abilene store tonight. They are good grocery merchants.
That was said knowing nothing about the owner.
There is no defending sanctuary cities.

Yes, there is.
For a long time I had the backup copy. Last year I dropped out of tracking that. Too many family issues.

Yep....Trump has made this exact point, often. Donor owns politician.

"The founder was, I think, named Harold Earl Butt. So, it is literally Harry Buttâs grocery"
Pretty funny, but the store was founded by Florence. Her son, Howard Edward Butt, expanded it. During the '60s, he was said by locals to be the owner of a large, brown house on Ocean Drive in Corpus.

I thought HEB was founded in Kerrville?
Oh, well I guess the Harry part was just propaganda put out by Randall’s or Thom Thumb

It was founded in Kerrville, something that I didn’t know from the past.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H-E-B
Checked there to see if my memory of Howard’s name was correct after so many years. Turned out that I’m not losing it, yet. ;-)
What I wrote about the house was local lore in Corpus long ago. Wouldn’t be surprised, if it was true. Choice of the rich: a house somewhere in Kerrville or on Ocean Drive (C.C. bay front)? ;-)

Klein’s Shop Rite in Maryland is the same. One of the execs made some comments trashing gun owners. He also funds gun buy backs. Even though their store is walking distance, we drive a few miles to shop elsewhere.

His dad was religious. I highly doubt it about him. I don’t know when it changed, but in the mid 70s, they didn’t even carry beer or wine.
I’ve gone to New Braunfels, Castroville, & Austin just to grocery shop.
