I’m getting tired of all the articles about how Harrison Ford wanted to kill off Solo for a long time. I thought,Ford didn’t write the story so he shouldn’t have a say. If he hated the part so much, why the hell did he try out for it?

Harrison Ford first got the part because he just happened to be on the set (as a carpenter) and the actor playing Han was missing during rehearsal, so Lucas had did read the lines to fill in - and liked him so much he replaced the other. So Ford took the job as his big break.

Contractual obligations may have given him no choice when he lost interest. Of course, large paychecks help.

I’m not surprised one got written out if the script.
