Looking to purchase a handgun purchase for my wife and I in the Bay Area (California), preferable in the south bay or peninsula area. Need some retailer recommendations. Please feel free to send a FR mail message, if you prefer.
Call up your local mosque. I am certain they can help you.
Check the gangbanger neighborhoods
Sportsman Supply on Camden Ave San Jose. You will need to take a test to get your firearms safety card first. You can take the test or take a brochure to study. $35.
While I am generally in favor of smart ass remarks, it would be nice if someone in the area would help the guy out. I’m sort of interested in how far he has to go from San Fransisco to exercise his constitutional rights.
go to Reno
This list is a bit old, but you can give them a call to see if they still exist.

Also, do a search on gun stores, bay area, Ca.
Good luck.
I concur. I bought a gun from Sportsmen’s Supply when I lived there. There’s a nice gun shop on Almaden Expressway when as well but I don’t remember the name.
Always buy at gun shows or flee markets. Ask neighbors if they have one for sale. Registered guns are confiscated guns. .
There are several gun stores in South SF, Brisbane, but I can’t recall their names. Imbert & Smithers in San Carlos is an old gun store that specializes in hunting guns, bolt action.
I've seen that shop for quite some time. I drive by that area about once a month. Thanks for the reference.
Private sales are illegal in California, I do believe.
If a store will help you with your purchase, and give good advice, I recommend the local stores that are endorsed by people on FR. Particularly with gun shops, it’s nice to buy local if they provide real service. [I am not from the area and have no specific local recommendations.]
If not, I recommend http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php - you may have to pay an extra $25 for the FFL, but you are likely to save more than that with Buds prices.
You do know they do background checks at gun shows too right?
Also, as mentioned by others, private transfers without an FFL involved are illegal in CA.
Flea Market? Seriously? I’d like to hope you are just kidding.
Go to Arizone then if you are stupid enough to live in that cess pool.
Bud’s is good and so is Impact.com. I bought my Keltec PMR30 at Impact. I had to wait but they treated me right on service and the price. I picked it up at my local FFl dealer for $35.
Gun Exchange is on Almaden near Foxworthy in San Jose. I’ve bought several there. Unfortunately, I since have had a marine related setback which has caused a loss of most of them.
To late, they’ve gone.
If for any reason you’re found in posession of an unregistered gun, you’re in deep doo doo.
Keep a civil tongue in your head, I’m just making an observation about their laws from afar. Wouldn’t want to get anyone in CA in trouble with bad advice.
