Hard to do when you have developed a relationship with that animal as a partner or family member for years.
Going through it with my Old Jack right now; he doesn’t seem to be in any pain but he can hardly walk, just wish he could tell me what he wants.

My old mare said she wanted to run.
Animals are really good at masking pain. Just something to keep in mind. Its hard to make that decision. Our animals are like our children but we do make that executive decision for them when its time. Sorry about your horse.
Well glad to hear it. I can’t imagine they would just let the horse lay there and die in agony.
My wife and I lost our horse Majestic in September when he was struck by lightning in his paddock and killed. I was very sad to see him go. Such a good companion to us.
Is it out of line to ask why the officer did not put the horse out of its misery? Just curious

I agree. That would certainly look bad if they didn’t.....
My thought exactly. Cowardly to let her suffer. But this could have a purposeful move on his part. To sway sympathy in his favor.
Saying goodbye to a horse you have spent so much time with is very hard. I grieved a long time for mine.
From what I have read it is not that easy if using a firearm. They were probably waiting for a vet to come euthanize the horse.
Human interest aspect of the story is fine - it's when folks so all ga-ga over animals and take stronger stances about protecting them than they do for babies that they get commented upon.
Besides - your need to comment as you did managed to accomplish that which you claim to be trying to stop - what little voices urged you to do this????
