Since I became an adult many years ago I made it a policy to NEVER and I mean NEVER cosign on a loan.

I don't post bond, either, unless I am pretty sure someone got a bum rap (almost never). I have not regretted either policy.

She’s 59 and complaining that she hasn’t retired?

No sympathy here.

Is this couple not aware of the booming economy under obamanomics? We basically have full employment. There should be no reasons why her sons don’t have great jobs.

I know. They have got to be liberals. Or stupid. Or naive.

Probably all three, since they do go hand in hand.

Great story on how genetics work. Mom and dad aren’t very bright, and neither are their kids (degrees notwithstanding).

The frightening part is this story is about 4 adults who are just clueless enough to vote for someone who promises more free stuff.

“They didn’t get degrees in engineering, mathematics or the hard sciences. A journalism degree is toilet paper... Technology management? “

Acutally, that useless degree combined with a PMP (project management) certification (a 1 week course) gets that person a management position over the engineers.

Very few engineers are the managers these days. The liberal arts degree holders with their PMP certs have circled the wagons against engineers. Many useless degree holders also went and got an MBA, so they are MBA/PMP holders and run most companies. Engineers have been pushed out of management positions.

They didn’t get degrees in engineering, mathematics or the hard sciences. A journalism degree is toilet paper... Technology management? What is that?”

Technology management probably means managing wind farms and solar panel manufacturing.

Probably not managing oil and gas, coal manufacturing and hydroelectric dams.

$190k for that?

From the article:

"The couple is currently paying $744 a month on their 24-year-old son Tim's roughly $129,000 of student loans.

Not much less, but still. They have another son who isn't much brighter.

Worked my way through Cal State. Not real costly then. I always wanted to pay for my kids college. I offered the oldest, but he went to JC on his own dime and now has real computer graphic skills and is an internet marketing manager. Daughter paid her own way. My step-daughter paid her way to Masters. My step-son borrowed and has almost paid it off and had 28,000 grand from Marines, about 1 year at UCLA. He’ll be 36 next year and can then afford a house. He has good employment and doesn’t complain about what he decided to do in borrowing.

The whole issue is aimed at forgiving the debt at taxpayer expense.

Watching my son send resumes out and the “Help Wanted” ads. leaves me wth this question.
On an entry “level job” how does one get 2-5 years experience?

I’m 61. I don’t expect to retire until I’m dead.

I have 2 pensions (One military, one civilian) but I like to work and I like to spend money...so, I toil away.

Most college degrees are ultimately status symbols for the parents (as well as the children). Having kids that have a college degree is no different than wearing a Rolex, wearing designer clothes, having a fancy car or living in a fancy neighborhood.

All that is fine, but you have to pay for these things. Status symbols don’t come cheap.

Boo Hoo...One son wasted 4 years worth of time and money on an education he doesn't want...So now he's going to strike it rich as an actor, or a waiter...

The other son wasted 4 years worth of time and money on and education that's no use to him...Now he has to do it all over again for double the money...

They are not only paying for wasted educations, they are paying for stupidity...

So does everyone else pay taxes.

No reason to forgive student loan debt just because someone stretches out repaying it for that long.

a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies

If he spent the same time to get a BA in Business Administration with a minor in English, he could still searched for a job as a Journalist but had some basic skills that would have allowed him a much wider employment opportunities.

‘We will all be working for Chinese wages if current policies don’t change.”

That’s the plan. Plenty of people on this board would like to see that happen. I think they are called “Free Traders”.
