A truly hokey movie about the Battle of NO was made in 1958, The Buccaneer. Despite offering a cast of Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Claire Bloom, Henry Hull, and a number of other qualified actors (Lorne Green plays a cowardly NO resident), the storyline is laughable and the acting is, let us say, subpar given the cast (picture Moses as General Andrew Jackson). Watch for it on your late nite TV.

The tune is taken from an old fiddle tune entitled “8th of January.” That day, in 1815 is when the Battle of New Orleans was fought.
