Not the fans.

Dedicated fans don’t want him or Mullen, but the knuckleheaded administration has set their course and will try to get one. sad.

Coming from a Ga Tech grad, Mark Richt is a class act. He is a man of great integrity and a strong Christian. Regardless of is record, he did what was most important - making a kingdom impact on young men.

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you,

I always assumed Goff got enough money to leave that he never had to work again. He did comment a few weeks ago that it would be crazy to fire Richt. So that may get him scratched from the list. Or maybe he just wanted to get his name out there....

hey rocket scientist, get your favorite school to hire him. Be satisfied with beating the weak sisters each year to accumulate that 9 or 10 win season while losing to the big three most every year, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama when they roll around. With what we pay to go to those games, damn right we want to win championships. No get back to killing trees.

That's about what I expected to hear. Richt was a bright spot in a dark world, making the best of a phoney world of "skrudent affaletes" somehow representing one of America's most academically competitive public universities. Georgia fans are only proud of "their" team when it wins everything, but who among them has ever been at the top of his own profession, let alone stayed there? Warren Buffet is a failure by their measure because Bill Gates has more money this year. Great school, delusional fans. Woof!

Kirby Smart may prove to be a latter-day incarnation of Knute Rockne or Bear Bryant. Or he may follow the trajectory of “can’t miss” coordinators who can never quite make the adjustment to the big job.

This is beginning to look (and sound) like another delusional fan base, at the University of Tennessee. Back in 2008, they were convinced they could do better than Phil Fulmer, who led the program to a national championship a decade earlier. They brought in Lane Kiffin, who decamped for USC after only one year. Next up was Derek Dooley, who obviously didn’t inherit his father’s coaching genes. Seven long years later, UT is finally returning to respectability under Butch Jones.

There are also credible reports that the UGA athletic director wants to hire Dan Mullen from Mississippi State (he worked with Mullen when he was at Florida, as Urban Meyer’s offensive coordinator). Mullen would be an absolute disaster at Georgia, but hey, the big money donors believe anyone could do a better job than Mark Richt.

Fulmer had 2 losing seasons of his final 4. There were embarrassing beatdowns from Bama and Fla. Talent level was steadily falling. Losing Cutcliffe was a major blow to Phil’s ability to succeed.

Bad thing about it was that the AD (who was also later fired) had no plan.

I hope Georgia repeats this scenario.

I’m a Longhorn fan. 9-3 in the SEC sounds pretty good to me. :-(

They seem to be on track to do just that. Smart has been mentioned for a lot of head coach vacancies over the past 3-4 years, but he’s never gotten the nod. I’ve heard that he has turned down a couple of jobs, thinking he has the inside track to replace Saban. But Nick seems prepared to stay in Tuscaloosa until retirement (NFL rumors aside), so Kirby may have decided now’s the time. Still, it’s always a gamble promoting a coordinator to the head job; sometimes it works, in other instances, it’s a disaster.

Likewise, hiring Dan Mullen would be the biggest mistake in the history of Georgia football. I’m an Ole Miss fan, and the rise of Hugh Freeze is one reason Dan wants out of Starkville. He would inherit a lot of talent from Mark Richt, but the cupboard would be bare (by Georgia standards) by years three and four.

It will be interesting to see the plan of the Georgia AD. He’s a Florida product and worked with Mullen when Urban Meyer was in Gainesville. Don’t discount those ties as a factor if Mullen is introduced as the new Bulldog coach.

No, just completely unrealistic expectations from the fan base and the big donors—that, and Coach Richt’s teams had a history of choking in big games.

College football has changed, evolved if you wish to see it that way. Is evolving, whatever. I have noticed something I will label as the “Paterno effect”. It seems to me that a coach who does not seek new and innovative defenses/offenses, or does not recognize that such things are needed has not only stayed too long, but is stale. Note that Nick Sabin has not remained stale, and is a winner, but that is currently an exception to a rule. No longer in the era of college football play offs can a guy coach for 15-20 years unless he innovates and keeps current. Gone are the days of "3 yards and a cloud of dust". Even with such innovation, 10 years should be the max a coach should stay at one job.

I’ve questioned some of Richt’s “leadership” positions over the past few years, but at least he has the sense to make good calls when the game is on the line. Stoops play calling lately is just....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You nailed it this is the big reason, Richt has a losing record against top 25 teams.
Richt and his wife are some of the best humans on earth, but that don't win football games. Richt just can't motivate football players and this past week after GT missed a field goal two coaches were meeting the players coming off the field pumping them up and Richt pushed one of the his own coaches in the back almost knocked him down.
We really need to get rid of the AD McGairty too. Move Richt to AD and yes we want homeboy Kirby Smart to come on home.
Beware, I remember Florida recently hiring a DC with no prior head coaching experience, didn't exactly work out. Bet y'all a dollar this time next year UGA fans will be wishing Richt was still there.
