Erdogan wants to establish/run the Caliphate...the more Islamists killed in Turkey/Syria by Russia the fewer we have to deal with.
While I agree with you, we do have legal obligations pursuant to the NATO treaty. Rather than get into a shooting war with Russia, we'd be better served mediating the dispute between Russia and Turkey. But only if he send a real negotiator, preferably someone from the private sector, and not have to rely on Jean Francois Kerry.
