“Columbus “discovered” a civilization that had an advanced architecture, celestial observatories, calendars and a knowledge of complex mathematical principles.”

That would be Hernan Cortes and the Aztecs, not Critoforo Columbo and the Taino on Hispaniola.

“Calling certain items “discovery” is as ridiculous as the ethnocentric notion that Columbus “discovered” a civilization that had an advanced architecture, celestial observatories, calendars and a knowledge of complex mathematical principles.”

Te concept of discovering a civilization, advanced or not is not ridiculous anymore than it is ridiculous to discover a new animal or land mass. The author is just an America hating fool.

“The best one can do is consider the fact that he was headed somewhere he’d never been,...”
Is that bad, or unusual? Its called exploration.

“...wound up somewhere he didn’t expect to be, ...”
That’s an integral part of discovery, exploration and the search for knowledge.

“...and had no clear idea exactly where that was.”

Not unusual for an explorer”

” Add in the fact that the entire expedition was financed by a woman – and what do you have?”

Is it bad or even relevant that the expedition was financed by a woman? This guy intends to bash Columbus but it comes out as nonsense.
