This government lies so often it’s hard to know when they’re actually telling the truth. But in this case I’d say it’s just B.S.

Add to your point, the fact that the norm for jobs is part time. To run a household, it takes a minimum of 2 part time jobs, and more likely 3 with both partners doing part time. I wonder if each new job gets counted as a newly employed person even if they already had a prior part time job that they kept. How would someone find that out?

The author literally doesn't know the meaning of the word "literally".

The author probably does but clearly, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi's chief financial economist, Chris Rupkey does not.

The company where I work is in the midst of eliminating 2000 professional positions. Conversely, every restaurant and big box stores in my town have help wanted signs posted. These are all part time jobs though.

Cool. Then the next time Democrats whine about new grads not being able to find a job, then we can tell the new grads that they must be doing something wrong because the “job market is on fire.”

If the job market is on fire why is the economy still at IT SUCKS?
Maybe because 3 part time jobs with no benefits does not equal one full time job with benefits..........

Ne zot, I am so tired of “literally.” Is every writer in this country 15 years old or something?

The author literally doesn’t know the meaning of the word “literally”.

Whenever I see this sort of abuse of the word "literally", I make the assumption that the abuser is some mush-headed millenial SJW. If I were running a bank and my chief economist used language like this, I would seriously reconsider his employment, same as I would if he were saying "like, totally, for sure".

If the government ever tells the truth, it is most likely by accident, and surely someone is getting fired.

Dear Andy Kiersz:

No where in your piece did you say the words, "part time." Why?

You do know that since 2010, 75% of all jobs created are part time, and low wage.

Right Andy.

Keep up the propaganda Andy, you are doing great.

What I stated is not a non sequitur. Mr. Limbaugh misuses the word "literally" regularly, and that it may influence other people's misuse of the word.

Of all the magazines I mourn, the Economist is the one I mourn the most. That used to be THE PLACE to get great economic data and fairly dry and balanced analysis of what the data indicated. That changed with Clinton, and it is horrible now. Economist is unreadable.

A real shame.
