I’m not so sure I’d like to have a USAF fighter pilot [or commercial pilot, for that matter] wearing these glasses.

What is the FIRST thing any reporter with a video camera should do? Put one of the lenses of a pair of the glasses up to the camera! Find out the basic principle or principles behind the glasses.
Most reporters are too stupid to ask pertinent scientific questions, or to report the answers intelligibly. Notice that all this story actually tells you is that there are color-blind people and some of them say the glasses do something. Oh, and this guy here has a girlfriend.

It is dang tough to be a red / green color blind engineer. You have an awful time reading graphs and usually have to remember all the numbers to get a sense of the data in a pictorial way.
Stoplights when the sun hits them just right are really tough.
