A seven-year-old German shepherd named "Louie," bears the painful evidence of neglect on his once regal body. Louie used to live in an affluent neighborhood with a family which was described as "well off."
For a time, the purebred shepherd, who had been purchased for thousands of dollars, was a beloved part of his family's life...everything changed when he was banished to live his life outside after the family welcomed a new baby.
Louie's life of being a pampered pet vanished and as he endured life outside, his health began to deteriorate. Of little matter was his fine pedigree or training...he had been tossed aside and forgotten. Thanks to outside intervention, Louie left his neglectful situation and joined the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County.

We had dogs then had kids. Dogs and kids are different and there is no need for a new kid to interfere with the way a dog is treated.
Both our dogs and kids thrived.
Glad to see a voice of reason. We are too knee jerk in our reactions.
Why did the story emphasize pure bred so much. Any dog that had been with a family that long should not be cast aside when another family member arrives.
But I think the story is bogus.
Two day update on Louie from his foster mom:
Day 8 of Louie’s new life... Louie went to rescues adoption event today to be microchipped and meet several members of his fan club. He did very well, but was very happy to come home and help his Daddy with chores. He’s now taking a snooze after his busy day.
Day 9 of Louie’s new life... Louie had a pretty uneventful day. This is him chillin on his bed on the deck off of our bedroom... Tomorrow morning he will go to our vet for a hydrotherapy treatment. Then he will be anestized to have his ears scoped ( they might be so full of dirt and garbage he will need surgery) and he will also be neutered. This Mama is going to be a wreck... Please pray for both of us.
Day 10 of Louie’s new life... Although I’m sure today was his least favorite. This morning he had his hydrotherapy treatment. This afternoon he was neutered and had his ears scoped. Good news is, the neuter went well and no surgery on his ears. They were able to remove all the debris and dirt without surgery. They flushed his ears 6 times, but got it all. I’m a wreck that he can’t come home until tomorrow, but I hope having his favorite bed, blanket and toy will bring him comfort. Can it please be tomorrow morning already?
I’m glad that he is doing better. Do you have any updated pictures?
