GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% said that he would vote against the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal between the United States and 11 other countries on Friday while campaigning in Iowa.
According to the Des Moines Register, Cruz said he is "deeply concerned" with the trade pact.
"While Cruz said he supports free trade, he believes the Trans Pacific Partnership would undermine U.S. immigration laws and the nationâs sovereignty," reported the Des Moines Register.
"There are a number of Republicans on that (debate) stage who support TPP, who support (the Trade Promotion Authority)," Cruz stated. "I voted against TPA and I intend to vote against TPP."
TPA , Trade Promotion Authority , is the legislation that Congress passed in June that granted President Obama fast track trade authority so that trade deals â,such as the TPP , only get an up or down vote by Congress, which cannot offer any amendments.
"I believe we can negotiate a much better agreement with a strong conservative president than we have with Barack Obama," Cruz stated.
Cruz was visiting the Hawkeye state following a recent endorsement by Iowa Congressman Rep. Steve King (R-IA).

If true, and I hope it is, my opinion and trust of Mr. Cruz has risen even higher.
Sen. Cruz philosophical economic underpinnings come from Milton Friedman. For all his insights on the mechanics of an economy, Dr. Friedman was never known for placing social aspects not directly related to the economy (e.g. importing weapons from your enemy, providing intellectual property to countries that do not respect it, etc.).
Sen. Sessions has been a good influence on Sen. Cruz on these matters. I don’t think it is mainly pandering (though he MUST keep an eye on political consequences of his positions). President Reagan did some adjusting of his own, when he toured the factory plants around this country in the 1980 campaign.
What vote on TPP? TPP hasn’t been voted on yet. He voted against Fast Track (TPA).
Cruz took another look at the text Sessions was concerned about and agreed with Sessions. He came out and said Sessions had been right, then they worked on immigration language for the TPA bill that would have corrected those issues, which Rand Paul and another Senator blocked.
Meaningless now. He already voted to give it fast track status meaning it takes 2/3s to stop it. Before he did that, it took 2/3s to approve a treaty. He could have killed the whole thing at fast track approval.
I like him a lot, but he pulled a fast one here and I don’t like it. I give him credit for being the most intelligent of all the candidates bar none. So I will not believe he was tricked.
He went way down in my book on his TPP behavior. Any other scams like his fast track vote and ill probably see him as another Rubio.
I’ve been following Cruz since he was elected Senator and hoping he would run for President since he fought the Gang of 8 bill. Cruz has earned his 97% Conservative rating.
Last week I read that there were at least 20 Republican Senators against TPP. The Dems are against it because of the unions. If that holds, it will be far short of passing.
“What vote on TPP? TPP hasnât been voted on yet. He voted against Fast Track (TPA).”
Like hell he did. He voted for it in the only vote that mattered. That’s when Obama had it firmly in his pocket. In some subsequent meaningless vote later in June he voted against it.
Cruz was a co-WRITER of the Fast Track bill along with Paul Ryan. On May 22, Trade Promotion Authority passed the Senate 62-37 with bipartisan support. Cruz was among the 48 Republicans and 14 Democrats who voted “yes”.
I like Cruz a lot, but he needs a huge bitch slap for this and needs it to sting for a long while.
You can vote against TPP in Iowa? I didn’t think it would be on the ballot there.
Trade, Iran, H1b.
“Cruz has earned his 97% Conservative rating.”
Ever hear about the 100 “attaboys”, and the one “ahhshit”?
Not really, too little too late.
Remember Pearl Harbor, remember the Alamo, remember TPA.
most intelligent but with proven poor judgment. TPA. Iran.H1B.
