Eastern NC barbecue ruled healthier than Western NC
WNCN ^ | 11/19/15 | WNCT

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) There is a new battle of BBQ and this one deals with which style is healthiest.

Insurance company Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) took a look.

A post compared the Eastern style to the Western style.

The Eastern style comes out on top when it comes to being healthier.

BCBSNC says it is because the Western take on BBQ requires a bit more attention and more flavorings meaning more fat and sodium.

It tipped the scales to the East too because the whole pig is used and not just dark meat on the pork shoulder.

BCBSNC says pick the Eastern style for your heart and cholesterol health.

No, I think boiled peanuts are disgusting. I do like them roasted, but I prefer pecans. :)

In either case, we eat so much pork that even just being in the same country damns a muzzie to hell. Hail the rib defense!

Texans try to tell us that cow is BBQ. NOT!
BBQ is PIG! Anything else is just burnt meat!

Regardless of meat for the pit this one will feed a crowd.

It’s long past time for us to have weaponized pork.

True....now I'm not a bbq snob....I do enjoy beef, pork, chicken where the sauce dominates the meat flavor and the sauce is good but thick and hearty- but there's definitely something special about preparing a meat that does not require being slathered with sauce to be delicious. There is a difference between enhancing and bringing out the flavors and the moisture..versus covering up with outside flavor and moisture.

Howdy, Slim. Merry Christmas! The same to you and yours. How are you?

We are enjoying some wonderful, unseasonal weather...the high today is going to be 70!

After today, I only have to work 2 more days before the end of the year, so I’m happy about that!

Merry Christmas Day! Best to you and your family. Trade you weather, 10 degrees and 8” of snow on the ground.

And Happy New Year while we’re at it.

Regards, Slim
