If a real cat isn't an option for you, this could be a way around that.

Toy company Hasbro is offering a new adult toy, Companion Pets, targeted specifically for seniors. The "Joy for All" pets are robotic cats that "look, feel and sound like real cats," Hasbro says.

There are three different-colored cats to choose from on the website. All are priced at $99.99.

Do you suppose they do crazy running through the house at odd times? Can they sit on you so as to put weight on your bladder at 3 a.m.? I wonder if they “answer” when you talk to them, like our Bob does?

Does the “I” in “AI” stand for “instinct”?

Perhaps if my neighbors would switch to robot cats, their real cats wouldn’t keep coming over to kill the birds at my feeder as well as pissing on everything. I think I’m all for robot cats. Good invention!

Well yea but this has nothing to do with it.

Eventually, assuming we survive the GOP, we will get to that sci-fi place where artificial cats are very real in most ways rather than a toy. This is a great idea for older folks/companion animals. It’s just the first step.

Perception is reality.

Oh well, at least a robot cat won’t piss on my stuff.

Kidding aside, exactly.

That alone keeps pets out of old folks homes. Then there’s the allergy thing, general health concerns etc.

If you make something real enough, it won’t matter. People are just as attached to TV shows as they ever could be to a robocat. But we don’t think it odd that people reschedule their lives around the sunday game.

"Does it jump when it sees a cucumber?"

Men never wonder why their wives are always buying cucumbers, but there are never any in the salad ...
