If a real cat isn't an option for you, this could be a way around that.

Toy company Hasbro is offering a new adult toy, Companion Pets, targeted specifically for seniors. The "Joy for All" pets are robotic cats that "look, feel and sound like real cats," Hasbro says.

There are three different-colored cats to choose from on the website. All are priced at $99.99.

So when they pick it up, will it feel and respond like a real cat or will it just freak them out or p!ss them off that someone is playing a joke on them? Go ahead and spend your money on that, but don`t pass on that bill.

Clearly you arent familiar with either side of the subject. You could apply your argument to anything from a screwdriver to a pizza.

And where did I say anything about spending my money on anything. Do you have any idea how many billions of dollars the Japanese are putting into AI/Robotics SPECIFICALLY to address the issues of their aging / Demographic concerns? and it isn’t some rivh guy with a Robotech/Gundam fetish. It’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Yamaha, Honda and companies of that stature.

This cat is a trial balloon for a wider global market and BUILDING that market. Sure it’s a toy. Now. But just ‘now’.

Its not even real! They`re going to become emotionally attached to a toy? What are we talking about here, two year olds!?!

Marketed to adults.

People don`t invest emotional attachment and cuddle with pizzas or screw drivers. Cats are pets, not my favorite, but they are alive and respond as living creatures. Would a person in a vulnerable mental state, forgetting it`s a toy, suddenly flip out because ‘fluffy’ really isn`t a cat? That`s kinda cruel, huh?

Shortly after High school I warked in a mental facility. I saw and worked directly with people of diminished mental capacity, from Mildly retarded (so mild youd just think them a little ‘off’) to profound sub 20 straitjacketed violent.

Some spaz out at a fly in the room and require 5 lumberjack sized men and a 100mg shot of Thorazine on a daily basis over it. Some have sex with rubber balls and God help you if you try taking it from them. Some have dolls and doe on them like children.

And if they throw Cuddles the robocat throufg a glass door, once in 5 years, the other 4 years and 364 days provided them with joy, comfort, and a greatly reduced anti-psychotic drug intake. real or not.

So whats the problem again?

Whatever, I think some may just as easily ‘spaz’ out after forgetting it`s fake, only to discover it isn`t, as I said, whatever.

Screw drivers — ok, not much emotional attachment. But you’re getting awfully close to my socket set and No. 5 Smoother, there, buddy. You’ve been warned.

Wait till the ecoterrorists speak up.

No joke. On a music production board I post on, I had SJWs go at me because my question about a wireless mouse showed that I hated the environment (batteries) and had no business in the music world because of it.

The left will have fits if 5 million of these are sold because of the batteries. They will at minimum demand they be made rechargable and even then bitch about frivolous power consumption.

Peta will seriously oppose them because of animal rights/the idea that people oppress animals.

Already and recently feminists were having public fits over RealDoll sex dolls working with an AI company to partly robiticize those products.

Liberals are insane.

When engineers create an AI cat is that the singularity?

Of course.
I'm gonna name mine Schrodinger. And his nickname Dingcat.

I say we compromise. Lets put all liberals in boxes and speculate as to their state of existence.

Sadly, experiments take time. But I’m sure they will comply since they are the party of science an all.
