I have three within a mile of my house. Two are at opposite ends of one mall and a third one is in another mall? I can't see how they stay in business even if the workers are illegal? aliens? who are paid slave wages.
Are they a scam to get low interest Federal SBA loans? Then do a a bust out bankruptcy? Fronts for immigration scams? Are some of them fronts for Chinese investors who want visas? The can score a visa if they invest half a million dollars in a US business. I believe they can bring their whole family into America with this $500,000 investment.
I think using gels nails, like shellac works just as well as acrylic, and you don’t inhale fumes and ruin your underlying nail.
I got a plantar wart from a nail salon. Be sure to bring your own equipment. Do not rely on the technician to safely sterilize equipment, especially since they are not highly trained in sterility. Never have them use any type of callus removing sponge on you, those cannot be sterilized. Also, make sure the bowl you rest your feet in has been cleaned with a disinfectant. That blue stuff they throw in the bowl does not disinfect.
Once I got the plantar wart, I stopped going to the salons. I do my own nail gels. A plantar wart can take months to finally go away, even with treatment. It mentally scarred me from ever going back to these salons.
Yep, one person wrings out all the tax benefits he can and then sells it to another family member coming to the US while getting an under the table kickback from the incoming family member. Repeat forever. It is a huge pyramid scheme to defraud the govt of taxes that US businesses normally pay. Our laws are ridiculous.
It varies of course.
Many provide under the table work for Vietnamese that come over on tourist or student visas (non-working visas).
Nail techs usually just rent the station for the day from the shop owner. Often they work in US until their visa expires then head back to VN — or they just stay.
Sometimes nail shops (and Pho shops) are set up to launder money. If the shop has no customers it may be a clue that it is a front for money laundering.
One VN nail shop owner suggested to me that business is good because fat women like to have their nails done because it is a fast/easy way to feel pretty (rather than losing weight) and it is cheaper and less disruptive than getting their hair done.
I get my nails done once in a blue moon but there are other advantages to going to these parlors.
Beer and wine for one, a hot foot bath and scrub, getting the callouses removed and of course not having to cut my toenails.
There are a couple near m,e. Some beautiful young women! If I was younger,,,,,,,,,,,,.
This is a two-fer scam. Part A is the SBA loans. Part B is that many salons are also “Beauty Schools” that eat your tax dollars. Huge sums in Pell grants and federal government backed student loans go for this sort of “higher education”.
My 87-year-old mom broke her hip 3 months ago. Hadn’t occurred to me to ask about her toenails, though we did discuss her fingernails. OK, I’m a crappy son, I’ll admit it.

Fine Patriot.
Americans love decent Chinese food. It doesn’t have to be excellent, just good and reliable. I probably spent more dollars in the little Chinese place in my college town than any other restaurant. As you say, the kids of the owners are probably all professionals today.
I go to one every few months and have a pedicure done.
Yes, I’m 100% straight and not a metrosexual. You haven’t seen my toes. I’d rather have someone else do them. They look better after they’ve been trimmed.
Besides, the Vietnamese woman who usually does mine is kind of a hottie. Her English skills leave a lot to be desired - but then again, I ain’t there for the conversation.
Plus, I get a really good foot massage afterwards.
The Vietnamese are really good at it. And...this will blow your mind:

There’s a famous actress who is personally responsible for training thousands of Vietnamese women—BOAT PEOPLE—and helping them start up their own businesses. I cannot remember her name.
Quite a few of these salons near me. One is particularly popular and the reason is they know everyone’s name, their prices are reasonable and frankly, they’re wonderful women who have embraced the American culture.
They all speak English or d their best and have wonderful attitudes toward their customers. i don’t have a single negative to say. There should be more immigrants like these women.
Originally came here with nothing thanks to the gutless snake Nixon. The rest of their families were probably murdered.
if you spent as much as I do on nails you’d know why there are so many and they flourish!
Honestly, they are always packed and they do a good job. And they’re fast. Get you in whenever you want and don’t make you wait. And cheap.
Madison Heights, Michigan has a high concentration of Vietnamese businesses (including some excellent restaurants).
Overall, some very good, hard-working (and pro-America) folks.
Don’t know if anybody mentioned this, but there was a woman philanthropist who literally started all the Vietnamese immigrant women into cosmetology. Might have started late 70’s early 80’s. It was a very big hit with them. I guess their spreading out from California.
Dude, that’s been for years. Liquor stores too. Gas station franchises, Big in owning the cab medallions and renting them out to bretheren. Greeks big on the Diner business back east. Inner cities it’s the asians for markets and liquor stores.
Many stereotypes originate with immigrants.
