Set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world, Fallout 4 is one of the biggest and most hotly-anticipated games of the year.

Experts from the American Chemical Society have released a video explaining the basics of survival in a world riddled with radiation - and it is even harder than fiction would have us believe.
...
The video explains that in order to protect themselves, people need to be exposed to the alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays from the ionising radiation for the least amount of time possible.
In particular, the key to survival is three-fold - time, distance, and shelter.
...
In a separate piece of research, Daniel Salisbury at King's College London compiled everything you need to know about a nuclear attack and how to survive it.
The research was commissioned by Fallout 4's game studio Bethesda Softworks.
Mr Salisbury, from the Centre for Science and Security Studies, explained that surviving the effects of a nuclear explosion depend on factors including the device and bomb size, where it was detonated, the nature of the target and weather conditions.
The danger of radiation from fallout also decreases with time.
Mr Salisbury said with each factor-of-seven increase in time (one hour, seven hours, 49 hours etc) the radiation is reduced by a factor of 10.
For example, seven hours after release, the average dose rate is reduced by 10.
...
Mr Salisbury recommends remaining inside for up to two weeks.
To tell if the radiation poses a risk, people should hold their arm out and shut one eye.
If when they hold their thumb up to the cloud it appears bigger than the thumb, they are in the radiation zone and need to evacuate.

If you read his lips, Pickens does say "Dallas"
The three SSS’s .... shelter, sustenance, shotgun.
Lunch Room, Carlsbad Caverns, NM
The lunchroom is 600 feet down. Put some fuel cells down there. Looks cozy.
Very cool!
I was taught that if you can shelter for 7 weeks you can survive the fallout.
A wise man named Jerry D. Young taught me that.
I actually have a 1960s-era fallout shelter under my back yard. It’s made of plate steel and has a foyer.
What is the survival use of lipstick?
Our house is stone and partially underground. The pantry is always full. We live 30 minutes from the closest “big” city and it is through the mountains. We don’t have crime in the area and my next door neighbor is Mormon.
We could hold out for the duration.
Barter item, same as nylon stockings, chocolate, etc.
BTT
Gotta tell ya, I’ve played for a while now, and ... its so.... depressing.
I think it’s because......

War.
War never changes.
I know what you mean. I expect lots of fun and joy in my post apocalyptic gaming experience. What WERE these people thinking? ;)
You’ve been sampling the Jet again. I can tell...
LMAO...so true.
I take it back. Thats a Kajhit that was sampling his skooma stash and decided to play with his video editor.
Kajhit guards your back. If someone sneaks up on you, he will smell him coming. Or maybe not. We will see...
