German anti-Islam protest swells on fears about refugee influx

DRESDEN, Germany (Reuters) - The German anti-Islam movement PEGIDA staged its biggest rally in months on Monday, sparked into fresh life on its first anniversary by anger at the government's decision to take in hundreds of thousands of migrants from the Middle Ea

But it has swelled again as Germany implements Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision to accept a tide of refugees that could exceed a million this year, as she argues that Germany can not only cope but, with its aging population, will benefit in the long term.

Police declined to estimate the number of protesters but media put it at 15-20,000, somewhat below a peak of around 25,000 in January. Around 14,000 counter-demonstrators urged people to welcome refugees rather than whip up opposition.

Riot police separate people holding a German flag … Riot police separate people holding a German flag and on their way to attend an anti-immigration dem … PEGIDA supporters waved the national flag and carried posters bearing slogans such as "Hell comes with fake refugees" and "Every people should have its country, not every people a piece of Germany".

Gathering outside Dresden's historic opera house, the Semperoper, PEGIDA supporters chanted "Deport! Deport!" and "Merkel must go!".

"We're just normal people who are scared of what's coming," said 37-year-old Patrick, a car mechanic. "As a German citizen who pays taxes, you feel like you're being taken for a ride."

Lutz Bachmann, the leader who resigned, told the rally: "Politicians attack and defame us and the lowest tricks are used to keep our mouths shut. We are threatened with death, there are attacks on our vehicles and houses and we are dragged through the mud, but we are still here ... And we will triumph!"

14k counter protests. That the most important part of the story.

I fear Germany, Italy, England are lost.

Those who are against better be in all the way. Or their country is gone.

I NEVER saw a group of white people want their women to be raped or their husbands to be slaughtered so badly!!!!!!

Exactly. They were welcoming them and applauding at one of the train stations. “My daughters will be raped. Yay!”
Pathetic.

Good thing though is the weak will be pushed aside just as easily from the right. They can’t fight physically so they can’t defend themselves with the SHTF.

Where did Merkel get the idea that the Muzz will be able to build Mercedes Benz, BMWs, Audis et al as well as German workers? And as an ex-printer I should add: the wonderful Original Heidelberg printing presses?

They mix the lies with truth, which makes it more confusing.

Well, they do that on purpose. They like confusion because it often leads people just tuning out.

While I have no doubt there were some leftwing whackos, leftwing anarchists and various other sordid types, I doubt it was anywhere near that number.

There are several fraudulent things built into the news pieces.

Of this anticipated 1.5 refugees coming in...it’s only around 35-percent who are Syrian or from the Middle East. The rest are a split between Balkan states (Albania for example) or from Africa. The Germans, brilliant at data collection, have admitted this in recent weeks but the news paper haven’t really grasped this fact.

Oddly, of all Middle Eastern countries....Syria had the best education program and university program in operation before the war occurred. A lot of this is related to the Soviet relationship from thirty years ago....where Syrians went off to Russian universities and got science degrees. It’s not worth bragging about but a lot of these guys aren’t exactly dimwits.

On the German side...which they’ve been talking for a decade about....the birth-rate spiral has been noticed. If they do nothing (accepting any refugees), than by 2040, the eighty million in population will slide to roughly 63 million. Right now, there’s some evidence that the pension program is in possible trouble in a decade unless they get fresh new people into the system.

Finally, there is a total disconnect between the state-run news media and the public. The news folks thought they could moderate the message and keep convincing people that ‘all was good’. Over the past six weeks...I’d say around fifty percent of the public is now skeptical and asking stupid questions. National election is fall of 2017, but there are three state elections in early March of 2016. There’s some thoughts that radical voting patterns will occur in those three state elections and Merkel’s whole future strategy will be spiraling out of control.

It might be time to pull out your history book and review 1932’s election in Germany, and what exactly occurred prior to the election....to get 37-percent of the German nation to vote for the Nationalists Socialists.

These protests are happening primarily in Saxony... where the economy has never caught up to the rest of Germany. Having been isolated for so long post War, they are a bit more intolerant of foreigners, and a bastion of skinheads. Saxons are also regularly made fun of for their accent and behavior in the media, so their outbursts can be portrayed as typical of the region.
However, this may spread as the influx of asylum seekers has been terribly managed. I read the comments section below articles in major newspapers in other regions... the populace is becoming annoyed.
