In apparent reversal, Trump says Afghanistan war was not a mistake
Washington Post ^ | 10-20-2015 | Jose A. DelReal

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Tuesday that although he believes the Iraq war was a mistake, he does not believe the war in Afghanistan falls into that same category -- apparently reversing his position on the war even as he continues to fault the George W. Bush administration's foreign policy.

"How can you say you were safe under his brother when we just had the worst attack in the history of our country?" Trump said on CNN Tuesday morning, echoing his controversial criticism of the Bush administration's national security record with regards to the 9/11 attacks.

"You can say, 'Yes, we did well after.' But we also made mistakes there … we went into Iraq, which was a disaster decision, just a disastrous decision," Trump said. "Not Afghanistan, because that's probably where we should have gone in the first place."

The business mogul has sparked a national conversation about the Bush administration's legacy on national security and whether they successfully mitigated the war on terror. Although he has frequently criticized the former president for invading Iraq, his recent comments holding him accountable for 9/11 represent an escalation of recriminations against the former president.

Trump has notably gone on the record criticizing the war in Afghanistan, frequently talking about the two wars with similar disdain. When pressed on CNN about his previous denunciation of the decision to invade Afghanistan, Trump denied making such statements.

Saddam was involved with the 9/11 attacks.

Not the planning for the attack itself, hijacking the planes and flying them into buildings, but the preparations which were made before the attack so the attack could achieve it’s objective.

The 1st WTC bombing was an attack against the economy. There was an orchestrated recession prior to the attack. It was planned as a 1-2 punch.

Same plan with 9/11. An attack against the economy. Orchestrated recession followed by terrorist attack. 1-2 punch.

The recession Bush inhered from Clinton was created in part because of the Oil for Food Program being used to manipulate the price of oil and Saddam’s unchecked smuggling of oil which drove the price so low it created a worldwide recession.

Several months before 9/11 Saddam was reported to have said something to the effect “soon America will be hit in it’s soar arm” meaning the economy.

BTW the plan for attacking the US economy has it’s roots in Castro’s “Black Friday” bomb plot.

A bunch of 7th century turd heads didn’t come up with that idea all by themselves.

I know. I've written about Atta's visit with al-Ani, and the rest.

As I keep saying, you might as well be trying to re-write the history of the Crusades. Politically, this just is not going to fly, and you (Trump, Cruz, whomever) would spend 99% of his time trying to explain this case. It was lost when Bush didn't fight on this in 2004-5.

I think a lot of it has to do with protecting the image of the US.

The muslim terrorist didn’t just get a wild hair up their butt in 1991 and decide to attack the US.

With the R King video, the radical left declared war against the US and enlisted muslim terrorist as their proxy fighters.

By using muslim terrorist as their proxy fighters the radical left’s civil war against the US quickly became WWIII.

In my new bio of RR, I’m showing that he was the FIRST to recognize that the Islamic threat was unique, and not a part of traditional Cold War stuff. But it took three years after Beruit.

It’s unfortunate that in the modern era the intersection between the sets of “truth” and “political winner” is at best very small.

Well, truth wins out. But it’s a slow process. Look where RR is in virtually all polls of great presidents today-—usually #3 behind GW and Abraham Lincoln. That took 25 years. The leftist history books have yet to catch up, but that’s ok. We have our own history books that are making significant inroads. “A Patriot’s History of the United States” is now in use in over 30 colleges and universities and hundreds of high schools.

Without allies in the Western world’s leftist leaders the muslims are nothing more than a boil on the world’s butt.

I guess it depends on the term “allies.” You don’t have to be an ally but unless you are committed to eradicating radical Islam as if it were Japanese bushidoism, then you don’t need to be actively helping them.

Many are actively helping.

In this country Obama and Hillary, all the left wing organizations that support them, and the MSM are helping the muslims.

It’s no different in other countries.

"When will people start to see through this guy as nothing but a panderer? What is his underlying goal? You really think he cares for the Republic? It’s all just about Donald, really."

Not true. Trump has described his goals: Bringing outsourced jobs back to the USA; closing the border to illegal immigration and deporting illegal aliens already in the country; improving the federal tax code; levying penalties on companies that outsource American jobs overseas; increasing and improving the capabilities of our Armed Forces; strengthening our nation's geopolitical standing through the replacement of incompetent ambassadors and negotiators with savvy and knowledgeable ones; and improving care and treatment of veterans. Sounds like a pretty substantial platform to me.
