2015-Metrosexual men.
1975-No thanks. I was married in 1976 and looking back at wedding pictures, it’s funny.
Sorry, The 80s were the pinnacle of fashion/style. Nothing will ever achieve that combo of elegance and tasteful suitability.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have an 8-ball waiting for me in the Lambo...
I love the 40s and 50s styles...
I was married in July of 1982...long sleeves, high neckline, 105 in the Church...guardian wedding angel upon my poofy sleeve, I didn’t faint/
Our daughter got married five years ago. She wore the Bridal Industrial Complex MANDATED strapless gown. Her dress was stunning, but in photos you only see top of top of bodice. Lovely dress but EVERYONE wore that style. Son got married last year, our daughter in laws dress was simple and elegant, sort of sleeveless, but NOT strapless!
Thanks for the link...it was fun to look out.
Now if I can live long enough, and have enough storage for my pleated Polo chinos to come back into style.
You must have loved how Tom Cruise dressed back in the '80s.
Nah. too subdued ;)
That was fun, thanks. I love the 1945, ‘55 and ‘65 outfits and wedding dresses. So pretty and feminine. The 80s and 90s are the eras I relate to, though. I can’t believe how big my hair was in Jr. High!!
The pinnacle never to be topped for men’s fashion was the 1930’s and early 1940’s in Britain.
LOL. The 80s was such an embarrassment. Still love the 70s women’s style but the men’s not so much.
Eww, the tranny in the lingerie.... Ok, maybe the 80’s weren’t so embarrassing.
Thank goodness for the loose boxer shorts for men’s swimwear.
Kidding aside, I think the 40s and 50s were the pinnacle. Men looked like men and women looked like women. If McFly ever pulls up with a Delorean, I’ll stop off in the 80s for a while on the way though ;)
I remember in the early 80's some college kids actually wearing suits while riding in ski boats trying to look like Duran Duran.
They didn't realize that the reason that Duran Duran wore suits in the "Rio" video was that their wardrobe person forgot to pack swimwear for the shoot.
Vogue pattern publishes retro styles. Somebody is buying them. They’re all too cinched at the waist for me, though.
We married in 1983. Her gown was like yours with sleeves & neckline. I wore Army dress blues.
Around 1999 strapless became as you say mandatory. She looked at the brides & bridezillas photos & asked, “Why are these girls showing in public what only their husbands should see?”
I replied, “Because they believe in the right to bare arms.”
“Wacky wonders of ‘80s style”, huh?
I disagree. Sure, there were some extreme elements, like shoulder pads so big they created a linebacker look.
But overall. women looked like women. I was in my early 20s during the eighties, and there was nothing wacky about the way I dressed.
For work, there were short, fitted little knit suits (not up-to-the-butt tasteless short, but mid-thigh), dresses that showed off the figure without being really tight, sheer black stockings, and gorgeous high-heeled pumps without the clunkiness you often see today.
And there were no ankle boots worn with dresses, which is one of the most godawful ugly, most unflattering styles I have seen on women today.
Casual meant painted-on jeans, like in the Billy Ocean song. Acid-washed? Sure, but every decade has its misses.
Going to clubs for dancing included one style I remember...short denim shorts, a black long-sleeved bodysuit with a sheer inset up top (didn’t show anything except the collar area), black tights, and I think some kind of black heeled boot.
Forget the no-makeup look...we loved our makeup and we used it. And big hair! I’m not talking the comical mall look in which one woman’s head contained a whole can of hair spray, but feminine-big....not flat and stringy, not all cut off.
I still rock the big hair because I don’t have a choice...I’m naturally curly and I have a mane of it. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
My DeLorean is double-parked, and there’s a Midori Sour on the console...
Duran2 ping!
Don Johnson...smoking hot back then.
I’m with you on the strapless dresses. They’re boring and uninteresting, IMO.
I’ve seen some extreme ones which look like stripper wear. “Sexy” just shouldn’t be an element of bridal attire...it’s inappropriate when vows are being said in a church. Save it for the wedding night.
