Flossing your teeth can be a waste of time-and do more HARM than good, leading dental expert claims
Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | 10/15/2015 | Jane Symons

We're constantly told we should be flossing our teeth - despite it being fiddly, time-consuming and sometimes painful.

Figures show that less than a fifth of us actually bother to do it regularly - with many tacky rolls of floss gathering dust in bathrooms the world over.

Now, one leading expert has warned that if not performed correctly, flossing can actually do more harm than good.

Here, Robin Seymour, Emeritus Professor of Dental Sciences at Newcastle University and leading periodontologist, explains why - and suggests other, easier ways to get perfect pearly-whites...Facebook

My dentist always compliments my teeth.

My dentist is the same. However, when I was young, he would tell me what nice teeth I have; then, he would ask if I floss. The answer was no, and then I would get a lecture on flossing.

My problem with flossing is that, I think, my teeth were very close together and getting the floss between them was not easy; and, even harder getting the floss out. Now that I am (a lot) older, I guess my teeth have shifted a bit, and I can floss with ease. Also, I need to use floss now; but, didn't when I was younger -- for removing "debris".

Waterpik daily, use hydrogen peroxide instead of water on occasion. I only use floss or picks once in a while.

I floss after every meal. Have done so for as long as I can remember.

Well, I now have a WaterPik for after every meal, though I still floss one a day just to get between tight teeth..

Anyone who doesn't want a clean mouth and fresh breath is nuts IMHO. Just ask your wife or girlfriend.

My dentist and hygienist heartily agree.

Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda mixed together as a paste for brushing, waterpik for between teeth cleaning and thin interdent brushes for making one feel secure. lol

No thanks.

I brush regularly but my teeth still feel like they’re wearing sweaters until I floss.
