Actually, on the first batches of storm troopers were clones. The ranks were opened to recruitment before the Empire fell. I have no problem with a Black storm trooper. It’s not like they turned Thor into a lady or made Dumbledore gay after the books were complete.
Has to be ginned up. I haven’t heard one person who seems to care. I guess they were hoping it would be more of a controversy than it really is.
“”I’m in the movie; what are you going to do about it? You either enjoy it or you don’t,” Boyega said.”
Black racists are the worst kind. They think all whites are racist because they are white.
This is one white boy that won’t be seeing the racist Star Wars movie.
My thoughts exactly. Clones, originally, from a bounty hunter.
Yes, the theme of that story was that 'a Black man will sell out his best friend for a shot at a white woman.'
Of course, that followed up on the first movie which cribbed from 'Triumph of the Will'.
It's equally ridiculous to honestly expect that in 2015 Hollywood would churn out an epic addition to the Star Wars franchise and not cast a single black actor.
Pretty sure the objection was that Storm Troopers were clones, and they were not black, per se.
This was actually a mistake made by fans, in that later troopers were normal people. In fact, Luke was considering following Dax to join the Empire.
And this makes sense. I can't see any Star Wars fans objecting to a black character, but I can see some of the trivially obsessed (it's a f***ing movie, people!) objecting to the inconsistency in the plot line by having someone who could not be a clone.
But like I said earlier, I don't think he's supposed to be a Real Storm Trooper. I think he puts on the armor for similar reasons as to why Luke Skywalker and Hand Solo did.
Jihadi chic. It's the latest cultural appropriation in fashion.
Darth Vader was black and Luke Skywalker was Darth Vader’s son, then Luke Skywalker was half black.
If we can handle Jar-Jar we can handle anything. ;-D
The original clone army were clones. I don't believe there's anything that says all Stormtroopers, ever, are clones. And this film is set in the future anyway, so things could have changed.
Also, seeing someone appear in the Stormtrooper uniform in a trailer does not mean that character is a Stormtrooper. Han and Luke also wore the uniform in the original film.
This sequel is supposed to take place after Episode 6, so perhaps the Empire decided to have genetic diversity in its clone army. Actually a single clone source would be a bad idea. Whatever genetic weakness was present in one would be present in all.

Only the original wave of Stormtroopers that were in the Clone Wars were clones of Jango. By the time we get to the first movie there’s multiple clone lines and non-clone Stormtroopers. It’s perfectly within continuity to have a black Stormtrooper by this point, according to canon there’s even non-human troopers at this point.
“No one really cares whats underneath the armor, right?”
Well, that’s the thing. You never see Bobba Fett without his helmet, and you practically never see storm troopers without their helmets. It is assumed that under the helmet they all look like Temuera Morrison because they are clones. In Episode III Revenge of the Sith a storm trooper commander appears with no helmet and he is played by Temuera Morrison. I’m not saying it is my opinion that the franchise needs to go out of it’s way to hold to that. I’m just saying it is an defensible opinion that seems more likely than the opinion that there should be no black actors in the franchise.
Puhleeeze!!! Let me know when they have their first gay muslim transvestite rainbow armored stormtrooper riding a unicorn, anything else is just a waste of my time.
Way to fabricate a controversy to stir numbers going to the box office - make it seem like one has to see the movie to prove one isn’t racist. Man, way to kill my interest. OH, I’ll still see it but they sure are trying to take the fun out of it for me.
Are we even sure that these alleged racist remarks are legitimate? All we have to do is take a page from obama’s playbook to see how skilled some people are to flame the idea of racism and then criticize the accused. Then the accused spends all their time trying to convince us they aren’t racist. When, all along, the accusation was false. This tactic has been played so many times that I now question the accusation.
