Dreadful.

This type of thing frightens me more than terrorism.

Do we still have an Ebola czar ? :-)

Ever read “The Stand” by Stephan King? I consider it to be one of his best works, scary because I can totally see it happening.

I hope the “Ebola Czar” is gone, mainly because he is about as competent as Obama. And in any “outrbreak” type of scenario when the government is telling me to not panic, that’s when I know it’s bad.

I also enjoyed the tv-mini-series version from 1994 as well. It had Gary Sinise and Rob Lowe in it.

Did we ever really have an Ebola Czar, or was it just that one person was named that and we are still paying him?

I’ve only just now read that the reappearance of Ebola related illness is common in Africa. It is worrisome. For humane reasons and because borders don’t keep disease out these days, this is the sort of thing international organizations must be well run and adequately funded and not just agents of corruption. The African nations are, for the most part, hopeless.

Putting faith in “international organizations” who are mostly run by an “intergovernmental organization” with a charter based on the USSR’s 1936 constitution is in vain.

Oh, he was very competent, when you consider his job was to mask incompetence by the CDC and the Obama administration by squelching any major media mention of the disease or possible cases. It was as if someone had hit a switch and turned off the news. You had to go to overseas sources.

The Stand - make sure you get the current edition, 1439 pages in paperback, not the short 1000 or so page version.

seriously...

“The Stand” is one of my all time favorite books.

Makes me keep an eye out for celebrities and/or politicians with the initials “RF”.

Bwahahahahahahaha

The one that I ordered at my library is the longer edition.

I was a tad confused, not knowing that there would be 2 choices, but I went for the longer one.

The first edition was shorter at the direction of the publishers because of production cost analysis which judged the market wouldn’t bear the cost. So King edited the book, cutting four hundred some pages. The final edition has them restored without altering the story or characters.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
