The View has become the center of controversy once again, this time after Raven-Symoné admitted that she would not hire someone with a 'black' name.
'I'm not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea,' the former child star said to her shocked co-hosts during Thursday's episode of the ABC show.
'It's just not going to happen,' she continued. 'I'm not going to hire you.'
Raven's comment came while the women discussed a recent UCLA study published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior, which found that Americans make racist assumptions based on people's names.
Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic and then played a popular YouTube video, titled '60 most ghetto names', for the audience.
The countdown video featured names like 'Grapedrankisha' and 'Fri'Chickenisha'.
'Just to bring it back, can we take back "racist" and say "discriminatory", because I think that's a better word,' Raven asked after the clip ended.
Whoopi nodded, saying 'It's a much better word,' but her agreement was short-lived as Raven continued to speak.
'And I am very discriminatory against words like the ones they were saying in those names,' she said, referencing the video before admitting she would never hire a 'Watermelondrea'.
Whoopi's hands flew to her chest following the comment and she gave the audience a horrified look, but Raven pointed at her reaction and laughed.....

This is a complicated mathematical equation requiring the use of common core arithmetic, rather than posting the entire formula here the answer is:
Whomever, whoever or whatever (common core English it matters not) you want the father to be, this is the only answer that meets the politically correct criteria as it is diverse, inclusive and settled, it cannot be challenged, all answers are very simple once you get the hang of PC Common Core and apply it Liberally.
her name is Watermelondrea but everybody calls her Mel
ans.... you are wrong. devawn is actually his uncle
I don’t have to even consider it. My TV went to the alley with a block through the tube in ‘88 and has never been replaced. My kids all read books, like those blocks of paper with words on all the sheets that teach you stuff.
LOL! I'll make plenty of assumptions of somebody named Whoopi.
The other problem is people giving girls male-sounding names, and the proliferation of names that you cannot decipher the gender.
Parents should carefully consider a child’s name. This is simple wisdom that should be obvious to everyone.
I agree with Raven but I also wouldn’t hire someone who looked like a cross between a black Lucille Ball and a character in the Road Warrior.
Of course Whoopi Goldberg’s real name is not Whoopi Goldberg, it’s Caryn Elaine Johnson.
My wife knew a black family in Canada, who named a daughter
sh’donya
say that out loud several times.
And then there’s John Ross’s infamous ATF agent “GG” Jones.
I think Led Zeppelin did too.....
My advice to an employer is:
If they call and tell you their name is “fukyomamma” take their information.
Next, review their vast educational backgrounds (remember, it has to be real and in an accredited institution...not street experience). After taking it, file it in file-13.
Wait 15 minutes and tell them that you can’t hire them because they are vastly overqualified.
Then, call your attorney and warn him of the potential suit that you will incur.
We ditched the TV when our kids were born (early 90s). Both ended up valedictorian and one is in med school now.
I’m not much of a tv watcher. I turn it on when we go to bed and fall asleep watching something like “Mysteries at the Museum”, which is usually a pretty interesting show.
I also like to watch pro football some time, especially when the poor cowboys are playing. I remember the good ole days of Tom Landry and Roger Staubach-—probably never to be repeated .
That was one hilarious scene!!!! Loved it!
Raven-Symoné looks like a he/she to me.
