That’s pretty much the movie. Less detailed of course, but it works pretty hard to at least make it sound right, it’s not the usual SF “reverse the polarity” junk.
I hope the book was a whole lot more scientific.
The movie treated putting manure on potatoes and mixing hydrogen and oxygen as “HUGE SCIENCE!!!”
The hexadecimal communication did impress me.
