Workplace and School Violence

Being retired I really don’t know the answer to this question but do organizations require training in the area of workforce violence which would include personality/behaviorial profiling and emergency action plans? I know when I was working, there were an abundance of “employee assistance” initiatives along with usually mandatory EEO, “sexual harassment” and “diversity” training sessions. I encountered some strange acting employees and students in my time. None ever went off on me, but I was well aware (and somewhat prepared) for any potential eventuality.

Yes. In most of the hospitals I have worked....with overhead codes for someone going berserk as well.

There are more such programs today than in years prior. As the awareness of individuals needing guidance and help increases, training to handle situations and individuals who are or appear to be anything but “normal” are created and implemented.

Somehow I get the image of the people who would gravitate to this job as being the same kind of people who gravitate to running Home Owners Associations (HOAs).

I recall one workplace where there was workplace violence training and the training was basically a) report any “suspicious behavior” to your superiors and b) do not confront any attacker but let the police handle it so you don’t escalate the problem.

One is never sure until the moment strikes what one will do but I would rather be the one shot dead bum-rushing a gunman than be the one shot dead cowering in the corner begging for my life. Whether I had a gun on me or not, I would try to find the opportunity to rush the assailant once his back was turned and try to knock his gun away.

However, if there are women around me, I would probably first try to find them cover or escape.
