Forecast predicts Hurricane Joaquin will charge up Chesapeake Bay
Baltimore Sun ^ | 9/30/15 | Scott Dance

The center of Hurricane Joaquin could be churning up the Chesapeake Bay come Monday morning, bringing flooding rains and storm surge with it.

The storm — which was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane Wednesday morning — is still about 200 miles east of the Bahamas, but is expected to strengthen and shift northward soon, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Joaquin is expected to make a right turn and speed up the Eastern Seaboard starting Friday, before crossing the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Sunday and heading up the Chesapeake on Monday.

While forecasts are tenuous several days out, a significant impact to Maryland is appearing increasingly likely. At least one key forecasting model continues to predict the storm will stay far from shore, though.

Good. I hope it turns into a CAT 5, threads up Chesapeake Bay, and slams right into D.C. and returns it back to a swamp.

Let's think about something a little more localized, like a neutron bomb. Lot of good FReepers that would be really damaged by a CAT 5 going up the Chesapeake :)

Joaquin is expected to make a right turn and speed up the Eastern Seaboard. That would be a left!

It is currently heading west.
North is a right turn.

Unless that was a lefty coast joke.
In that case I feel silly.

The only hurricane I was ever in was while I was working in DC. Shook the several feet thick hundred year old walls of the town house for quite a few hours. And we were hardly in the worst part of the storm. I’m not sure - the memory must be going - but I think it was Isabel.

Only innocents will suffer. The perps will bag a$$ and not be bothered by the storm. Still your position has merit!

That’s a bit extreme, Extremely Extreme Extremist, but I like it.

That is, if only certain people are washed away and no innocent non-politicians.

Latest from NHC has it only a tropical storm when it hits Delmarva. Of course that could change.

It would have to go up the Potomac to do that, not the Bay. Unfortunately, the effluent from DC would likely be the end of the fisheries in the Potomac (what's left of them anyway) for decades.

Damaging Baltimore is only going to make the race of professional victims riot again with a new excuse to steal and destroy private property. Deja Vu New Orleans all over.

"Unless drastic changes occur in today's computer models, the Maryland and the entire mid-Atlantic region could experience impacts that exceed Isabel in 2003, Irene in 2011, Sandy and Hazel in 1954," Foot's forecasters wrote, in all caps and underlined.
