After a long summer of denial and disparagement, even the most elite precincts of the media establishment are trying to come to grips with Donald Trump.
First it was the cable news networks, which instantly realized that Trump was good box office, followed by the network morning shows. Then some of the columnists who had dismissed him as a sideshow began to grapple with his rising poll numbers, even those who continued to hammer him.
That was followed by a series of faulty predictions that Trump was about to implode because of this or that corrosive comment, to the point that some talking heads simply announced that they were getting out of the forecasting business.
Trump even scored a 60 Minutes profile on Sunday for the season opener--drawing 15 million viewers--and later declared that CBS anchor Scott Pelley had been fair to him.
Now some other upscale outlets, rather late to the party, are joining in the dark arts of psychoanalysis: What makes Donald Trump tick, and how has he managed to completely upend the rituals and decorum of a presidential campaign and play by his own set of rules?
What does it say about the electorate that he has struck such a deep chordand, I would add, what does it say about the media and political insiders who suddenly seemed so clueless?

I am (very) disappointed at Fox overall, but like Kurtz at the moment.
In fact I have completely stopped watching the networks. Even Fox Business.
If they did more Kurtz, and a lot less of whatsername, maybe I would go back.
Though maybe I wouldn't.
Anyway this seems like a good article. Enjoy.
Clinching a deal is tough---negotiations are intense.
Throwing all one's cards on the negotiating table upfront is NEVER done.
The trump card to ace the deal is played only when the time is right.
I hope Donald, the candidate, wont be coerced into showing all his cards upfront.
Trump is the only politician anywhere, saying he is for bringing back manufacturing to America.
He’s it.
That is a very, very big issue.
Kurtz was (is?) about as liberal as you can get. He was a classic case of living, eating, breathing, existing in the DC/NY media cocoon. To those in it, there is no alternate universe.
However, when faced with regular cogent alternative points of view, all but the most blind cocoon inhabitants are faced with a decision: face reality, or bury your head back in the sand. Kurtz occasionally shows a glimmer of that reality. In my view, though, it's not very often.
With the Internet, I don’t need any of the alphabet channels, much less FOX for news, sports, or business. I can’t remember the last time any of them told me something I didn’t already know.
All the news people do is try to destroy someone, anyone. They use and abuse, lie, and ruin people’s lives. That’s what turns them on.
I wonder if they know how much the public (the thinking public) despises them.
I want to hear the big picture vision, I dont want wonky details.
Which tax deductions go is critical.
If the right ones are removed many peoples taxes would go up even if their rate went down.
And no Republican in my lifetime has won running for raising taxes. That’s why BO asked that question first.
WEll it was obvious to me last night that BOR was ticked off about the whole thing. He was mocking Trump the whole what five minutes he was on. That garbage about now I’m going to ask you a question and you tell me if its fair or not. Then when they broke away BOR was shaking his head and laughing sarcastically.
Just to see if Cruella was still on air I left the TV on and sure enough there she was with another inch in length on the fakey hair extensions and Mark Theisson as her first guest just trashing the chit out of Trump. I turned it off at that point.
I think Trump is wasting his time with Fox. He’s better off to just stay away from them and let their ratings slip.
Trump exudes honesty about who he is. I never get the feeling that he’s holding back, parsing, spinning or being “smooth” with his answers etc..His answers are rough and his attitude is “Yeah, I think that and I don’t care if you don’t like it”.
This explains why he connects with people over and above everything else. In this way, he’s completely different from every other politician running.
good point. It's true. They're full of bs and repetitive to boot.
1. 100% self funded....no rich donors demanding to expand H1-B visas for cheap labor express, and allow export of factories to foreign lands which takes away middle class jobs.
2. Better name recognition than any other candidate running except perhaps Bush.
3. Fearless! Not afraid to confront any adversary or the media.
4. Only candidate using the word DEPORT in his campaign.
5. Only candidate who has actually built WALLS before.
6. Willing to sacrifice his $400 million income for $0.4 million salary of president, which he will donate to US Treasury.
7. Willing to take a huge hit due to proposed income tax rates in order to HELP middle & lower income achieve UPWARD MOBILITY and hopefully get off dependence on government handouts.
8. Not a necon, unlike Bush & Rubio who are itching to fight more wars in the middle-east, on credit card, and get paid nothing!
9. Only candidate who wants to stop China & others from UNFAIR trading practices resulting in humongous trade deficits every year. These deficits have consequences, as foreigners own more and more of USA.
