I write sci-fi and it is disconcerting to see around a quarter of the top 100 books in the genre have covers of shirtless men. But erotica has seeped into every genre and women buy those books by the ton.

The vampire erotica crap has taken over the superhero category at Amazon. Many authors have noticed the problem but Amazon doesn’t want to fix it.
Those books sell, and they sell a ton. Amazon isn’t going to stop people from buying or selling them.

If I were single, I would stay away from dating attractive female Shape Shifters. I’d be afraid that I would find out that their name was Caitlin ... way too late.
Really, what is going on is that Amazon is now selling self-published ebooks alongside regular titles.
That junk has been up on the ebook sites for a long time. There is a lot that is even weirder and grosser too, (like bestiality romance stuff), so consider yourself lucky you just browsed scifi!
You assume they are marketing these books to women.
There are jokes that romance novels are porn for women.
Since you already have whole categories of shape-shifters (including dinosaurs) having sex with male and female humans after all the other supernatural creatures were tapped out, including werewolves, the sci-fi genre is one of the few left.
