Japanese centenarian Hidekichi Miyazaki set a fresh record as the world's oldest competitive sprinter this week, one day after turning 105, but said he was disappointed at falling short of his own personal best.
"I wanted to shave off a few more seconds as I got 36 seconds while training," Miyazaki, wearing a bright red T-shirt and running shorts, said after completing his heat with a time of 42.22 on Wednesday. His personal record of 34.10, chalked up when he was 103, remains unbeaten for centenarian.

Miyazaki, known as the "Golden Bolt" for imitating Jamaican Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt's famed lightening bolt pose, says he longs for the opportunity to challenge the fastest man in the world, according to Guinness World Records.

Very cool.
Finally found it on a photo caption in the linked article: that’s a time for the 100 meters.
The ability to compete in sprints at 105 years old - THAT is a blessing from God - far more so than almost anything I can think of.
Absolutely amazing.
He looks like he’s in his 70s. Good for him!
At 105, I’d settle for being called the “golden walk” never mind the “golden bolt”.
I wonder what he did during World War II. I wonder how he survived. That is probably an interesting story. The Japanese don’t like to talk about that.
Whatever diet he’s on, I want in!
bkmk
42 seconds to “sprint” 100 metres? The average fit person could run 100 metres in 14 or 15 seconds, and walk it in less than 40. 42 seconds would equate to one kilometre in 7 minutes, or one mile in about 11 minutes. That is 5.5 mph.
Still, the fact that he’s able to move under his own power at that age is an accomplishment.
