Here's the Real Reason Why So Many Women are Single
Mic ^ | 09/16/2015 | Kate Hakala

Posted on 09/21/2015 6:14:44 AM PDT by BJ1

"I know lots of single men," Cara, 26, a resident of Brooklyn, New York, told Mic. "It's just... most are of little or no interest to me as anything other than a hookup."

Tired of old ways: The somewhat revolutionary notion that women are actually deciding not to marry is something that wouldn't be possible if the value of marriage itself hadn't changed drastically over the years.

"When women's life choices were highly constrained, they had little negotiating power," Pepper Schwartz, a sociology professor at the University of Washington, wrote for CNN. "They had to marry or were seen as damaged ... It's different now. While most women still want marriage, they don't want it at just any price. They don't want it if it scuttles their dreams."

That, in part, is due to marriage no longer being a must for women's social and financial standing. "I don't think hookup culture is damning for long-term commitment," Lisa, 27, said. "I think it's a response to the large obsolescence of marriage as an institution for women. We don't need to be economically or socially dependent on men."

That carries out through the numbers. Compared to their grandparents' generation, millennial women are significantly more likely to have a bachelor's degree and be a part of the labor force.

"I think a lot of us just don't think marriage is that important because it doesn't offer the security it once did," Norah, 27, told Mic. "It's not as necessary anymore because I can work. I can support myself."

....

It's not that there aren't enough men to explain waning marriage stats — there also aren't enough women who want to walk down the aisle.

This is wishful thinking. It is men who went on strike and stopped marrying women, now the women are just making excuses :)

I was just thinking the other day that I haven’t laughed like that in a long time.

My family used to sit around the table each Sunday and tell jokes and stories and reminisce until there were laughter tears falling.

I am starting a games-group with friends and acquaintances so I can hear old stories retold with humor. I am tired of the isolation of snark.

I don’t agree with that.

A very hot chick will have a high value even if she is easy vs a more modest looking chick, that’s just the reality, men are visual creatures at the end of the day.

As the old joke goes, “Women are driven by what they hear, so men lie. Men are driven by what the see, so women wear makeup”

A sexual past in this day and age, isn’t going to negate you from being able to find a life partner, as I’ve said I’ve personally witnessed many a party girl settle down.

However, I meet women every day of all ages, that are just screwed in the head when it comes to men. They don’t understand the most basic parts of the male psyche which isn’t all that complicated to begin with. So they handle and approach men all wrong, and of course wind up upset and angry when its all said and done, and just become more bitter and more frustrated, etc etc etc... When the issue is really nothing more than their mothers needed to sit them down and have a few hour if that conversation with them when they were younger.

Instead they get their sensibilities from feminist dogma nonsense.

I do think some women tend to be too picky, the fact is when you are in your 20s and young, you will have your pick of the lot, but if you decide, I’m going to wait until my 30s or 40s to settle down, you aren’t going to have the same selection, so if you think you can act like you are still 24, you will likely not find that perfect guy.. because what you consider your perfect guy is out dating those younger women.

I know this doesn’t apply to all women, not remotely, but it does apply to a lot of them, particularly that are older and still single, in my experience.

I don’t think so. They are just rationalizing the fact that men aren’t interested anymore, to make themselves feel better.

There are a lot more of them than most people know.

They are either in private schools or being home schooled then are sent to upscale private colleges. So unless you went to private school or attended an upscale private school you might assume they are nearly extinct.

A college like Baylor or SMU has 1,000’s of them.

Your scenario is not plausible. One minute on google finds the high school drop out rate of females to be 6%. Another minute of searching finds 32% of women have a college degree. I’ll do the math and assume 62% have something between a high school diploma and a four year degree. Why contrast the college woman against the statistical anomaly?

And my personal opinion is feminism is toxic. Feminism is taught in colleges and encourages working women. While you see smart capable college educated women, I also see the increased likelihood of feminist ideas. Our culture is steeped in feminism and we are all affected by it. But I would prefer to stay away from the more radical strains of it (gender pay gap anyone?).

Don’’t look at me—I’ve been married to the same man for nearly 55 years.

We have 5 kids—all of them our’s, 11 grandkids, and I wouldn’t trade my guy for anyone I know.

When you have the best, you don’t even look around.

As I said in my first post - HYPERGAMY.

We will have to disagree with the nuances to that one, but look, if your still hot later in life, and a party girl, you will still have a high SMV. I do agree. Thats because they are still hot. (beware hitting "the wall")

Unfortunately for us, our biggest private school is the University of Denver. Expensive as Hell ($250k for undergrad), 50% foreigners, and the rest are extremely left-wing granola bars. *yuck*

The "real" reason so many women are single is that there is only one of me (and Laz).

I am of the opinion that the most important aspect of college is not the education your get but the opportunity you are given to meet a quality mate which will make all the difference.

Dads, if your daughter is good at math and science, encourage her to go for an engineering degree. She will spend four years surrounded by a LOT of guys.

Yes, I agree, age takes its toll, and unless you are blessed with incredible genetics your looks will fade with age. Which was my point, if you are in your 40s thinking you will have the same options you had in your 20s you are only fooling yourself.

However, I don’t think having a sexual past is going to stop you from being able to find a mate, the days of being stigmatized due to you sexual past are long gone in our society today for the most part.

A womans chances of Hypergamy are higher when she is younger. If she still wishes that goal and is older, its a higher mountain to climb.

If a guy can hook up regularly with a girl why commit to marriage.

Fortunately, there are some guys who realize that there is a lot more to life than a bunch of empty hookups.

first of all america used to be a rural country and you acn bet the farmers kids and wife busted their humps and few went to college. my grandfateher was one of 13 .... cheap labor i guess..

far as single women today shallow, self focused, “educated” as a result of paying tuition for 4 years (make that 5 or 6 today)... uninteresting as persons and not attractive...

are you going to marry a hook up mentality..?? of course not knowing youre the 1000th guy to hook up.. oh and lots of UGLY women, lesbos and losers too.. but if you want to be happy for the rest of your life never make a pretty woman your wife...
