US People Across The Country Are Painting Blue Lines On Street Curbs To Support Police
Daily Caller.com ^ | September 17, 2015 | EMMA COLTON

The thin blue line that symbolizes America’s embattled police officers is taking on a literal meaning in city after city.

Through the Safe Harbor Initiative, Anthony Welichko of San Antonio is urging Americans to spray paint a blue line on the curb by their home as a simple public affirmation of their support for the police.

“To all law enforcement who see this line, know that the residents of this home appreciate your service and dedication to keeping the peace,” Welichko wrote on Facebook. “Know that when you enter the neighborhood and see these lines that you are not alone or without ‘back-up.’ We do not need the media to make our voices of support for our police and emergency services heard (though it would be nice). Lastly, if you are in my neighborhood and mean to harm a member of law enforcement, know that decision may be hazardous you (sic) health as someone has that officers (sic) back!”

Welichko’s post has been shared more than 75,000 times.

“The war against police, if you will, gets a lot of attention. I get the sense that the officers themselves aren’t seeing that support,” said Welichko. “Every single day they’re here protecting us. Our families. Our children. They absolutely deserve that respect, and they need to know we appreciate that.”

“This is not an organized movement requiring one to join, sign-up or reach out for permission. If you wish to show your support the same way I have then grab a can of paint and go for it,” he wrote.

Curbs?

Where I live there are no curbs.

The couple of deputies contracted to patrol here know everybody already.

Hmm. There are already thin blue lines on several sidewalks in my town. They are part of a self-guided walking tour. I don’t think people spraying thin blue lines on their sidewalks here would end well, we’d have tourists lost all over the place.

I'd like to see what the blue line looks like but I can't see the picture.

I'd add one to my place if I knew what they look like.

Blue lines are usually a utility markout for water pipes.

I have seen a few vehicles with blue tape across the rear window to show support.

I recently saw a list of things that might make a cop suspicious that you are carrying drugs. One of them was having a DARE sticker on your car!

So I wonder how long it will be before the bad guys start using the blue curb thing, hoping it's a form of camouflage.

Actually, it is a 'vertical' blue line from the grass to the street.

It’s just on the curb. Grass to the street could encompass sidewalks in most areas. Middle of the top of the curb down is what I’ve seen.

I’ll keep it mind next time I’m at Virgil’s.

Actually, I don’t want to paint the curb in the front of my house, but I might consider putting some blue tape out there for a while.

We have an excellent police force in my town.

Around here depending on the shade of blue it means one is either a Carolina or a Duke fan.

Same here. If you find out, let me know, please.
